Video on youtube here
and info from wikipedia here

The sky walk was unveiled to the public on the 20th and will be open for use on the 28th. I'd definitely take the walk; I can only imagine the view.

Edit: Before posting, I hadn't read (or even browsed) the entire wikipedia article, and after having read it, it hass come to my attention that the construction of the walkway is controversial.

So do you feel the platform's benefits (tourist attraction) outweigh the cons (disturbing the natural environment)?

Price seems a little exorbitant for what it is. I'd consider it if I had the cash to blow. Otherwise doubtful.

It's their land, and as of now, they are doing rather badly economically, from other commercial ventures in the area, and the relative obscurity/out of the wayness of their reservation.

I think if it helps people enjoy the Canyon more, and if it helps them, then fine. Other than that, it does strike me as one more thing that can be sabotaged in a Hollywood movie that Superman or someone similar could save.

My parents had heard about this, and when we all went to the GC last month we looked for it but didn't see anything regarding it. I guess the opening was pushed back and that is why.

I would have loved to do it, but my wife wouldn't have gone out there for anything. [Smile]

It sounds like something I'd like to do, but the truth is I'm scared as hell of heights and probably couldn't bring myself to get 10 feet from the rim of the GC, let alone on a skywalk out over the thing.

As far as the natural habitat part, we screwed that all up years ago when we dammed the Colorado River up. What's a bit of metal stuck out over the edge?
