Pilots shooting themselves down with their own cannon fire or missiles used to happen all the time in Korea and Vietnam.

well i pretty busy aiming my DDs main guns when to my dismay i ran into my own torpedoes, i had released them a cpl minutes earlier, mustve outran them and then turned into them

If you're outrunning your own torpedoes, you should be sitting in your torpedo and firing your ship at the enemy.
