If you're a guy from Florida or California, do you own any red pants?
We got the Lands' (sic) End Clearance catalogue in the mail, and I was looking through to buy some new pants for my husband. They had lots of pants in his size -- in color red. And some more in Sky Blue. I called up to order the pants that he wanted, and the customer service lady kept telling me, "We're out of those in the Olive Green, but I do have them in his size in Brick Red."
Me: "You sure have a lot of red pants in stock. I guess they don't sell so well."
She: "It's more of a regional thing. They sell well in Florida and California."
Me: "Really? No one in New Jersey is walking around wearing red pants."
She: (laughing) "They don't wear red pants in Wisconsin, either!"
So, I'm asking you Californian and Floridian gents -- do you guys really have red pants in your closets?

Guy. California. I own no red pants. I never have. Lord willing I never shall. In fact, that's why I didn't participate in the gift exchange. As soon as I do, I just know someone would send me red pants, just because I live in California. Or next year specifically because I posted this.

I think it's Land's End making a silly marketing mistake and then blaming it on California.
We have enough bat-caca crazy people out here without midwesterners blaming us for more =)

maybe the large amount of red pants in Florida can be explained by the high proportion of retired people down there. Those old folks love their weird colored pants.

There's a guy who waits for the bus every morning in front of the Sierra Club (corner of Post and Van Ness, I think.)in SF who usually wears a red leather mini-skirt. But, I've not seen many red pants in CA.

I'm a guy who lives in California. Never owned or seen any guys wearing red pants. I have on red denim shirt that I sometimes wear. Other than that the only red in my wardrobe can be found solely in ties.
I also get the LL Bean and Lands End catalogs and have wondered from time to time about some of the color choices to be found therein. The LL Bean clearance catalog came a couple of weeks ago. It was filled with the equivalent of the red pants. I mean, they weren't able to sell men's jackets in Screaming Green -- go figure.
Of course my wardrobe is pretty much confined to:
blue (French blue, dark blue, faded blue, navy and indigo), black, grey, white, khaki, brown, burgundy, forest green and sage green.

I live in Florida and do not own red pants. I own red shirts, even a maroon sports coat that I believe is over 30 years old and would survive a nuclear blast based solely on its cockroach population, but no red pants.

I'm in Boston. Somewhere in 2001, I created my own red jeans by bleaching and then dying a pair that started out light blue. (I started the process in New York, and finished it in Ann Arbor.) Sadly, they no longer fit me.

I'm a guy in California, and a former owner of a pair of Dickies red pants. Bit of a long story, but basically, me and some of my friends in high school put together a garage band, and the singer had the bright idea that we get band uniforms. Well, one thing led to another and when all was said and done each of us ended up purchasing a pair of red pants. I think I wore my pair twice: to our one show, and for a theme day at school (class color day, the junior class was supposed to wear red... ).
I have actually seen a few guys wearing red pants elsewhere, but only very rarely.

Its probably that gang thing here in California. One of the gangs here in my area has claimed the color red, to the point that many schools do not allow their students to wear anything with red in it to class. Or blue, either; the other big gang in the area has claimed blue. Kind of cuts down on clothings choices, but it has also cut down on gratuitious shootings.

Yeah, we're in Florida and hubby doesn't have any red pants ... don't know anyone with red pants unless you count sweat pants, or the kind of athletic suit you might wear if you were a Georgia Bulldogs fan or something. But real pants? Haven't seen any in red.

I can't think of any guy I know in Florida who has Lands End-style red pants. Maybe red parachute pants or Dickies, though.

Though I do know a guy who has plaid pants. Very few people in their 20's can pull that off, though he manages. Of course the fact that he is 6'6, and built really big keeps people from commenting negatively about his choice is clothing.

How coincidental. I read this thread yesterday, and today, my friend Nate wore the brightest pair of red pants I have ever seen. I wish I could have taken a picture, but I didn't have a camera.
(It also would have been a bit akward. "Hey...uhhhh....so do you mind if I take a picture of your mid-section and lower body? You know, just so I can post it on an internet forum for hundreds of people to see.")

I don't know about red pants, but when I went to Florida, I tried to buy a pair of pants and discovered that my legs had shrunk 2 inches. When I'm in Florida I have a 32 inch inseam, but in New York I have a 34 inch inseam.
Figure that one out.

Glenn, that's simple. Florida has such a vast amount of the retired, velcro-wearing generation that it warps the time space continuim, thus altering the physical nature of all Florida residents. In this case, the effect appears to be the shrinkage of said legs.
Or the fashion designers just down know how to measure.

2. My dad orders quite a bit from Land's End catalog, and he doesn't have any red pants that I know of. However, I have found that he does buy sky blue ones and green ones that he would not buy at a store.
Come to think of it, I think my dad DOES have a pair of red shorts from Land's End, and I know for a fact that he has several red button up shirts from there.
I remember a day in High school (Catholic school with a button up dress code), one guy wore red pants, and we had an assembly, and everyone was staring at him- so I don't think it was particularly common 7 years ago.

The clothing company or designer probably tries to instill confidence in its customers by making them all feel slightly taller than they really are. Haven't women's dress sizes now increased so much that women who once wore a 4 are now wearing a 0, or even a negative size? It's all marketing.

It may be marketing, but what does it have to do with Florida? Seriously, my inseam has been 34 inches for over 20 years, with the exception of one mad rush to find dress pants so I could go to dinner at a golf club in Florida. I tried a number of different stores, and different styles, but every pair I tried was the same. I finally admitted that the 32 inch pants fit fine, so I might as well buy them. Since I came back I buy pants the way I always do, by pulling my size off the rack. Still 34 inches.
