I got a great idea for a very clever dramedy that could be put in print, TV, or possibly film.

I came upon the idea perusing the internet. I don't remember why exactly, but I was reading about vampires on one of my favorite forums.

I think the vampires should have AIDS. Their diet consists mostly of human blood. They also come in contact with all sorts of bodily fluids with all their wooing of sophisticated girls in low cut dresses.

I haven't ironed out the details, but I think the premise has potential. My dedicated staff of writers (Hopefully Joss Whedon) and myself could come up with all sorts of funny/dramatic situations.

I've decided the title Suck It! is really cool.

Anywho, I just wanted to share and say...BACK OFF, THIS IS MY IDEA!!

I was just thinking of a clever situation. Since vampires can't die, think of all the humor of dealing with colds and other diseases their immune system can't handle. Plus they will always have to watch out for nurse vampire hunters with wooden shots!

Ummmm....I'm sure that at times you can be completely hilarious. But this, my friend, is not funny. At least not to me. It's completely unnecessary.

This is why I try not to watch tv anymore. Because people actually succeed in getting stuff like this aired.

I know people who pitched a screenplay to Disney a couple of years before they made a movie that was exactly like what they pitched, so I'm sure idea-stealing is quite common, even in the official business.

Like, right after Stravinski pitched Bab5 to Paramount, they miraculously had the idea for Deep Space 9.

That said, I think I'd be extremely angry if the same thing happened to me.

But both shows existed simultaneously and actually did well - and to me at least, seemed very different in style and tone. So it wasn't like because one existed, the other one couldn't. Different people with the same idea can produce totally different works based on it.

Ideas are cheap and easy - you can have a hundred brilliant ideas a day. It's what you do with them that counts. [Smile]

He pitched it to them before the original miniseries was made, which was better than two years before either show aired. The Bab5 miniseries aired the season before the series began. Both series did start about the same time. ST had better actors, but the writing sucked wind fairly soon after it started. With Bab5 it was the opposite. [Big Grin]

They were both going for a darker tone at first (I think... I gave up on DS9 by the end of the first season). The real genius of Bab5 was that it was a story with a five year arc. The execution ended up being somewhat flawed by the funding being cut for the 5th season, and then picked up by another group after they tried to tie everything uo in the 4th season. But it was a great idea. IF they did crib a bit of his idea (and I'm not sure they did, at least not consciously) they didn't crib the best part.

Olivet: its worth trying DS9 again. It got a lot better after the first season or so, and there's remarkable story arc continuity (with subarcs) across the seasons.
