the "three conservative books" ad that keeps popping up at the bottom?

All right, people -- which one of you has gone all conservative again?

[No No]

I'm seeing ads for Mac Mall, lesbian/gay wedding rings, and The God Who Wasn't There.

Am I in the wrong threads? [Big Grin]

Not me.

Where are you looking? I've never seen ads at the bottom. Or the top, or the sides for that matter.

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

Um, my post count jumped from 897 to 908 with that last post.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Keep scrolling down!!!! Even on this one!!!!

Argghhhh . . .

*runs away screaming*

*peeks back in at Tante* It is your fault, isn't it? [Monkeys] [Razz]

I've got nothing, still. There are the linkies to the rest of the forum, the copyright bit, then "Powered by Infopop Corporation
UBB.classic™ 6.7.2" and that's as far as it goes.

Double eeeck . . . I'm being haunted by conservative ghosts. *trembles in fear*

Are you using IE or Firefox?

Firefox.

With AdBlock or AdBlock Plus?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

Oh, that might be it.
I'm not sure, but there's usually a little blue tab that says AdBlock for sure in front of pictures and stuff.
Thanks. [Big Grin]

[EDIT] AdBlock Plus. [/EDIT]
[EDIT] Still doesn't explain the jump in post count. [/EDIT]

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

You can temporarily turn it off, refresh the page, and see if the ads show up.

The tabs only show up on items that it doesn't automatically class as ads. Those don't show up at all.

Oh, that's simple.

It's due to the alcohol-induced drunken posting. Which, of course, you don't remember.

*giggles*

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

No, really, I don't mind the lack of ads. I was just wondering why I didn't have to suffer through them.

Ah, that would explain it and the nausea/headache/generally crappy feeling I've had all day.
Man, Rivka, how did you get to be so knowledgeable?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Experience.

Don't worry, whippersnapper. When you have my obscene number of posts, you too will know all the secrets of the universe. Or at least of Hatrack.

Okay, I think I figured this crazy post count thing out. Sorta.
In the 3 word story thread my post count is 911. Here, however, it is currently 915, soon to be 916.

But I don't know why. It jumped 11 in this thread and is four fewer elsewhere.

Crazy drunken posting doesn't explain it. I have proof!

[EDIT] Now it's 919. I'm so confused. I refreshed everything and checked a couple different pages before posting. [/EDIT]

How do deleted threads/posts change the post count?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

I haven't deleted anything in quite some time.

[EDIT] Okay.. I think things are mostly caught up. I'm guessing it's just my computer not refreshing correctly. It's still three behind what I think it should be in this thread. [/EDIT]

Still there.

*closes eyes*

*wonders if they would still be there if she composed a poem in honor of peace, greasy hair, 'shrooms, and free love*

*decides against rhyming*

*much to everyone's relief*

*wonders if Dan might spin a rhyme, though*

I was thinking of it in a broad sense, not that you were doing it. What if someone deletes a thread that you posted in - would it make your count go down, but maybe take a while to catch up to itself?

Posted by aiua (Member # 7825) on :

Ah. Let me check.

Posted by cmc (Member # 9549) on :

(sidenote: rivka - it worked. but i don't like it. won't be doing THAT anytime soon)

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Wait, WHAT worked? [Confused]

Ok, a short explanation of apparently variable post counts, and a few oddities of UBB.

Firstly, deleted posts and threads do not reduce your post count. If you deleted every single post you had ever posted, and every thread you had ever posted in were deleted, your post count would stay the same. Sorry, but there is no rolling back the odometer. [Wink]

Every time someone posts a new post to a thread, the post counts reflected in every post in that thread get updated. However, if a thread has not been posted to (by anyone) since your post count has changed, your posts within that thread will not get updated. (Usually -- occasional other events seem to trigger board-wide updates.)

My current (before posting this post) post count is 21333. But if you look at this post, it shows only 21304. And this one shows even fewer, only 21290. (And if anyone posts to either of those to threads, the post count will update.)

(sidenote: the whole get rid of the first post and the rest will follow thing... )

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Ah. Yes, that would be how one deletes a thread. I've always found it rather exhilarating . . .

Does the evil-ness come with experience or...

I wouldn't rub anything by Ann Coulter against my nether-regions. I'm not sure the soft tissue can handle all that vitriol.
