Hey guys - I'm in Dayton for 2 weeks for work, and wondered if there's anyone around who would like to get together for dinner one evening. I know I'm not a big poster, but thought I'd throw it out anyways.

Feel free to email me at swampjedi at hotmail dot com.

I'll be in Springboro this weekend, just south of Dayton. I'm not actually allowed to go to Dayton by myself, but I may be able to bring a friend, say... late Friday evening or early Saturday evening(late lunch/early dinner?). There's a Bravo! by the Dayton Mall in miamisburg, we could meet there. I can't do anything late Saturday or Sunday, cuz I'm going to a party and then I have to come back to Columbus for school(but if you're in Columbus, I'd be mroe than happy to meet you on campus). Email me at fortner.34@osu.edu if you;re interested in Bravo(Italian food, if you've never had it before).

That sounds cool - Saturday works best for me, since I'm in class on weekdays. I'll email you to set something up.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Awesome. Is it okay if I have a couple friends with me? Forgive me for being paranoid, but I don't like meeting strange people by myself.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Absolutely not, bring all you want. I'd probably do the same if I had some to bring, hehe.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Okie dokie. A couple of my friends need a ride to the party that night anyway, so they'll be with me. I'm thinking we'd have to do something around 2- Bravo, at least, takes a little bit to get the food, and they're kidna crowded most saturdays. If that's okay, we can meet there(or another area restaurant of your choice, such as Friday's or PF Chang's)around that time. I have a hair appointment at 8:30 that morning(and since it's a full color, I'm not sure how long it'l take) and the prty starts at 7, and I have to get in costume before that. So... just let me know. Also, any way I can get your name and a picture so I know who I'm looking for? ^.^

Noe clue.

Yes, I know. Don't say it.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

wow. Punny.

Anyway, I haven't seen Noemon post in a while.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Correction, upon search, he posted earlier today. Maybe he just hasn't gotten online since this thread was started. But hopefully he'll be able to join us.

Email replied to.

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with his computer. And he can see hatrack from work, but I could be wrong.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Well, Tinros, that gives you an idea of what you're going to hear during lunch. I love bad puns - the lamer the better. [Big Grin]

Thanks for the heads-up, breyerchic.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

oh joy. oh well- if I'm my normal self, I'll be making bad puns right along with you.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I hadn't checked back here since I'd gotten off work (breyerchic is right that my computer died, but I've replaced it).

I'd love to meet you, Swampjedi! I'm free either Thursday or Friday night of this week, and the latter half of next week as well. When works for you? Also, what kind of food do you like? Dayton has surprisingly good Thai and Indian food.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Noemon, I do love Thai food, though I'm somewhat of a neophyte.

I think I'm going to have to say next week, as I feel a bit off today. I think the airport food made me sick. Too bad I have to get to class.

Next Friday is a federal holiday, if I'm not mistaken, so I'll have a long weekend of zero to do but lurk on Hatrack. [Wink]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

No problem, next week it is. Hope you feel better! What kind of classes are you in Dayton for, out of curiosity? When do you plan to go back to...::checks profile:: Atlanta?

Want to plan on hanging out next Friday, then?

I'm at AFIT for a logistics management class. It's an 80 hour class, just short of being long enough to have to sign a continuing service agreement. It's not but tangentially related to my job, but it was enough for my unit to fund me.

I head back to Georgia on 17 Nov.

Next Friday sounds smashing.

I live in Dayton. Centerville actually.

E-mail sent.

The best barbque in town is just a block or two from my house in Centerville.

I remember wanting to go to OrneryCon a couple years back, though I forgot it was here.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

I wasn't legal or around for ornerycon... but I'm 18 now! yay!

msquared, you are more than welcome to join us at Bravo Saturday. I assume, living in Centerville, you know how to get there.

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

I know exactly where it is. However I might be busy.

Jedi might be stopping by my place tomorrow night and we will go to City Barbque. He might also join the gaming group that I run this Friday night.

What time are you going to Bravo's?

I work in Springboro.

msquared

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Yeah, anyone who wants to come to Bravos is more than welcome to. We can have a minicon, hehe. THe idea is 2pm, if I'm not mistaken.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I'd love to join you, but I'm going to be busy all day Saturday.

What is Bravos, anyway?

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Bravo is really really good italian food. as in, better than olive garden.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

I can't wait! [Big Grin]

Tinros, post the address, just in case? Thanks!

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

address from their website:
2770 Miamisburg Centerville Rd
Centerville, OH 45459-3730
phone: 937-439-1294

So what shall we call this? JediCon? SwampCon? UnheardofCityInOhioCon?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Dayton is unheard of?

When did that happen?

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Thanks, Tinros.

I'd say MiamiCon - first, this is the Miami valley, and second, it'll cause doubletakes. [Big Grin]

One bit of (to me) humor - I actually live in Centerville... Georgia. I can't seem to get away from the place, hehe.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Dayton's not unheard of, but Springboro certainly is, and Miamisburg is pretty unheard of too. There are too many Centervilles in the world for anyone to care about the one in Ohio.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Gotcha.

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Hey Swampjedi, are you Real? I could be halfway to becoming real myself if you are!

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

Tinros

I am Real. I have met dozens of Hatrackers and Ornerites as well as the Card's several times.

msquared

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

I've met OSC! I just remembered that! Shame on me for forgetting the book signing a couple years ago...

Are you gonna meet us at Bravos, then?

Posted by msquared (Member # 4484) on :

I will see what I can do. The oldest has a marching band competition that day and there are projects around the house that we need to get done before winter hits.

I might just stop by for a few minutes.

msquared

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

That's cool.

Tinros, I'm not Real (tm), but I will be shortly. :-)

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Well, it was great finally meeting you, m^2. Thank you very much for your hospitality - you'd have done a Southern family proud. [Big Grin]

The BBQ was wonderful. [Smile]

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

I'm half Real at the moment... hopefully I can change that soon.

For the record, three of my friends are coming with me, two girls and a guy. Just to let you know. If you get there before me, wait up, or put you name in as SwampJedi. If I get there before you, I'll wait for you, or in case of a long wait, I'll put my name in as "Fortner."

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Alrighty. I'll get some strange looks reserving a table for SwampJedi though. [Big Grin]

I should be there pretty early, since I am going to give myself plenty of time (to get lost).

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

It was great meeting you, Tinros. I apologize for being quiet, but I was a tad overwhelmed. [Wink]

Posted by Tinros (Member # 8328) on :

Completely understandable. My friends are a little more than a bit crazy. I swear, most of the time they behave(except Julia, who I have to forcibly shut up sometimes in order to get a word in edgewise). Sorry about them. They take some getting used to.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Oh, I thought they were cool - hence the wink.

Julia was hilarious, and you can tell her I said so - even if I did blush several times.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Bump -

Noemon, what day works best for you this weekend? Personally, I want to try to make it to the AF Museum sometime. I don't know what that means, though.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

It's been a while since I've been to the Air Force Museum; I'd be up for another trip. Want to have lunch on Saturday and then head over there? Mark, any interest in joining us?

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

I wasn't suggesting that, but that'll be just dandy. [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

It sounds like a lot of fun. I've been meaning to get back there for a while now. Any particular time work better for you than any other? If not, let's just plan on meeting at, say, noon.

Food options include:
Vietnamese - good but not fantastic, has the advantage of being very close to the museum

Greek - fast foodish, but decent for that kind of thing. Also close to the museum

Indian - further from the museum, but there are several very good places to choose from

Thai - 20 minutes or so from the museum, probably the best Thai food I've had in the US

Burgers -Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers and the Oasis Cafe are both close, and both make good burgers. Oasis has decent sandwiches of other types as well.

Breakfast type stuff - Sunrise Cafe in Yellow springs is going to be about a half an hour from the museum, but it features the best pancakes I've ever had, period, and very good omlettes. Their lunch menu is really good too.

Would love to join you but have family obligations that are already scheduled (UD has their first home game Saturday afternoon).

It was nice meeting you. I hope my brother and my friends did not overwhelm you. Kevin does not know when to let others talk.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Thai! I'm in no rush :-)

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Thai it is! Why don't we meet in the Barnes and Noble on North Fairfield Road at noon. That's easy to find, and is relatively close to where we're going. I'm going to send you an email through the forum software here in a second with my cell number. If you'll respond with yours it'll make finding each other in the bookstore that much easier.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Got it!

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Got your reply. See you Saturday!

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Is this north or south of 35? I can't seem to find a B&N with that address.

Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :

Wow, that Indian food was fan-freaking-tastic. I'm going to be going back there at least once before I go home to GA.

It was great meeting you, Noemon.

In other news, SwampJedi is now Real(tm). [Big Grin]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Smile] It was great meeting you too. And yeah, I think I have a new favorite restaurant.

By the way, I didn't see your question about the location of the bookstore until just now. Glad you found it okay.
