I'm trying to put together that Milla Jovovich outfit from the first Resident Evil. But it's really hard to just find a red spaghetti strap slip dress that doesn't have any crazy details.

I tried eBay and Google, but my Google-fu is weak. Can you guys help? I need to cut the dress, so I'd prefer to not buy anything extremely expensive.

Edit to add picture.

Do you know anyone that sews? It looks like it would be a pretty simple dress to make (and then you wouldn't even have to do the cutting yourself)....

If I can find the dress, does she come with? [Big Grin]

What size do you wear? I'm making a trip to the thrift store today to look for Halloween costume stuff (we have one that is teh awesome in walking distance), and I'd be happy to pick one up for you if I find something that will work.

Also, you might check lingerie as well as dresses-- I have something that looks remarkably like that hanging in my closet. [Wink]

You don't happen to be a size 3, do you?

After reading "I'm trying to put together that Milla Jovovich outfit from...", am I a bad person for wondering if you were going to say The Fifth Element?

That might be perfect! I have to find out the actual measurements first because dress sizes are weird and completely dependent on the cut of the dress...I don't think I've ever bought a slip dress before. I'll email you with measurements if you want to look. [Smile] That would be so great.

I didn't think to look for lingerie, but that might be good.

*LOL* I don't think the Fifth Element outfit would be good for traipsing about the French Quarter. I like this one because it can include shorts and non-heeled boots, which make it so much easier on your feet!

Was my family connection not able to help, kq? Sorry.

She seemed able to, but I haven't heard back from her in several weeks, plus it will be cheaper if I can find what I need at the thrift store. If I don't, I'd still like her help. [Smile]

She was out of town, visiting her parents. And you know about the current month. [Wink]

Just drop her an email again.

Okay, I will. [Smile] It'd be helpful to know what I can find at the thrift store first, too, I'm sure.

Okay, I am back. We went to the park after the thrift store and Jeff picked us up from there and we went to dinner.

I found two perfect dresses-- both way too big for you. I also found some red dresses close to your size, but not very good for what you want to do. And I found a lingerie thing that might work, right shape neck but with an all-over red-on-red rose pattern, and possibly a little short (I'm not sure) in your size. However, with the cost of the thing plus what it would cost to ship it, you had probably just as well get that dress from ebay which is pretty perfect for it, from what I can see. So I'd go that route first, unless that auction goes too high for you and you want me to go back and pick up the other thing for you. But I'd check your local thrift store, if they have a decent selection they may have what you're looking for.

It wasn't a total waste of time, though; I picked up a warm up suit for my husband's costume (happened to have the right color tags to be 1/2 off today), a winter dress for Ems, and some clothes for a little boy who we've been asked for donations for through the ACAC (not my church, but that is a nice succinct description of what it is. Our caseworker works with a lot of kids who are not in group homes, unlike theirs, so sometimes we are providing basic needs, such as clothing and diapers, for children, whose mothers often have fled an abusive home with them and have nothing.)
