Thought I'd bring this back for another round or two over the next couple months.
Everyone who has had experience with webcams, please venture forth now with your advice. Favored brands, models, or just advice on operating and tips for buying the right one in general are all greatly appreciated for the purposes of this thread.
Also! People who may be interested in getting a webcam, what are you looking for in a product? And what questions do you have? Might make the process easier.
human 2.0, if you see this, and have anything to chime in with, it'd be appreciated (knowing your expertise with camcorders and cameras in general).

The best one I had was, I think, a Logitech.
Right now, I have that one on a keychain that you get from the Discovery Channel Store. It's a lot grainier; my old one cost about the same and took amazingly clear pictures for a webcam.
My biggest issue, I think, has been light. For some reason, I always have trouble getting enough light to take pictures that don't look like they were captured in a graveyard at dusk. But the graininess of the new one does kind of bother me.
I used a Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro for a very long time, and was extremely pleased. It perished, and I replaced it with the QuickCam Fusion. The resolution is better with the Fusion, but I liked the color of the 4k Pro better.

Did either of you have any issues with it clarity? I mean, did the video stream nicely and clearly? What kinds of connections did you two have? Was the video jerky and frame by frame or like actually watching real time video?

Connection speed was always an issue, independent of camera. I am on cable, as are my chat-mates, and we still freeze a lot. When it's not frozen (which is actually due to my friend's connection), the video is quite good.

I actually just bought a web cam yesterday. I got it mainly for cost - $25 at Target. For some reason I can't find it on their website, but it's the Logitech QuickCam Messenger. Used it last night and it was great! Clarity's pretty good as long as the other person's connection isn't slow.

Swampjedi, how did both of your cams work with the noise cancelling feature?
I've read a lot about how you hear a wicked echo on webcams, the ones with built in mics I mean. Because you hear your voice over the speakers and then back through the mic again.
Supposedly both the Fusion and the Quickcam Pro series are supposed to have really good echo cancellers built in. But I've also read they only really work with another fusion or quickcam, or else it's useless. How's it work out?

Actually, Lyrhawn, I use a headset. I'll give it a shot next time I use it.
