Stephen Jay Gould would've loved it.

I read an article on this a while ago. They want to figure out why left-handed snails are so rare if it's such a good survival trait.

Of course, the reason it's a good survival trait is that it's rare, so I'm not sure what they'll find.

I'm betting left-handed snails have trouble mating or something equally self-limiting.

Who is left handed? I'm a righty but in my family of six, three of us are lefties, which is pretty unusual. My mom and both brothers are left handed while my Dad, my sister and me are right handed. Adroit, as opposed to Gauche. [Wink]

I'm a righty, but three of my four kids are lefties (coincidentally, all the ones born in December). One is strongly lefty, writes, bats, everything. One is "weakly" lefty; he took five years to decide! He still has some confusion at times. My daughter is strongly lefty when it comes to small motor stuff like drawing and writing, strongly righty with large motor stuff, and is right-eyed. My dad and their dad were both ambidextrous. They are all math kids AND creative kids, but some of them have the messiest handwriting on the planet [Big Grin] .

My younger daughter and my sister's youngest son are left-handed. I knew that Cayla was left-handed before she was a year old - she obviously preferred using her left hand. I just let her do what she wanted in that respect. My sister was ambidextrous early on, but was told to choose one or the other. My mom explained it was because my sister used both hands alternately. One hand to write the circle part of an "a" for example, then the other hand to draw the straight line. So they told her to write with one hand at a time. She choose her right hand.

I did almost the same thing, and my handwriting was some of the worst in class, so they just picked for me. [Big Grin]

I'm left handed, though I throw with my right arm, not that I ever throw a ball.

I have heard (I can't remember where) that people who are left-handed but throw with their right are more often than not right-eyed. (I finally remembered what the optometrist called it: cross-dominance.)

do snails have hands????

I think left-handed snails taste better.

I am left-handed, but I twist to the right. And I throw with both hands, usually.
