In the past day and a half or so, my laptop has been regularly going into hibernation after being idle for about 10 minutes (I haven't timed it exactly).

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Pro- new 3ish years ago. Toshiba has it's own power saving options, and you're supposed to use those instead of the Microsoft ones (I can't even touch the Microsoft ones).

It's been plugged in, and I have not changed a single thing that should've made it start acting up. Hibernation support is on, but it's only supposed to activate during a period of idleness while running on a low battery. I have it set so that nothing should change when I close the lid or leave it idle.

Any suggestions would help [Smile]

Are you 100% certain that your power supply is functioning properly -- i.e., is the machine running off of battery for some period because the PS is acting up?

You could perform a series of tests. Change the settings so that it hybernates after 2 min of idle WITH the powersupply in. That way you'd at least know that the system is sensing the settings properly, or not.

Then gradually change the settings to see if you can get it to stop hybernating when plugged in, or if you can have it hybernate after longer idle periods (at least). That will tell you if the system is responsive to the settings you are giving it.

Then you can decide whether this behavior is annoying enough to make you want to pay money to have a service professional take a look.

My experience with laptops is to always suspect something squirrely in the power supply. but that's just me.

I prefer setting it to stand-by mode rather than hybernate. Hybernation bugs the tar out of me.

Ah, I think I fixed it. I played around with a few dials and it stopped. Still don't have any idea why it would've changed though.
