5th grade awards assembly, today. Himself took home 4 certificates and a medal.
School Safety Patrol -- for braving the northwest weather no matter how wet and cold to safely escort students and others across busy intersections. Community Service Award -- for daily attention to the recycling needs of the school. (You would not believe the things this kid has found in the trash. ) First Class World Traveler: The Passport Club -- for memorizing 193 countries, 40 international capitals, all U.S. states and capitals, and a host of other geographic bits and pieces. (You should have seen the look on his face when I said he really has no excuse for forgetting his chores. ) Reading Recognition Award -- including being the first student ever to finish every book on the suggested reading list. (Well, of course! He's my kid!) This award includes his name being on a school plaque, and the medal.
Not to mention, his swim instructor can't wait for him to grow up to 14 so he can start assisting with swim classes, and 15 to lifeguard. My baby!

WTG Nathan! That's an impressive list of accomplishments.
Emily perfected a move on the uneven bars in gymnastics that has been giving her fits. She's so happy. The head coach, the guy who runs the place and has over 25 years of coaching experience worked with her group one day, and was able to give her some coaching that apparently was just what she needed, she's hit it every time since. She's a level 3 gymnast and some of the level 4's haven't even perfected this move yet.

Congrats to your son. He sounds smart, helpful, and conscientious.
I hope the other kids don't hate him for it. There needs to be more people in the world like your kid, and I woudn't want to see them try to change the way he is.

Matthew has mastered E and D chords
Olivia had her performance last week. She did just beautifully. Not that I'm biased or anything
Andrew had his first recital (through the city parks and rec, which served asa reminder to me why I'm paying for him to go to his sister's dance school now). He did not achieve anything near technical perfection, but his love of being onstage was evident.

Ok, it's really not much, but my little Leslie, who is 20 months old, said Thank You to the waitress at dinner tonight. I was thrilled to think I might be doing this right and am raising someone with manners. My oldest just got his Brown Belt, and his enthusiasm for martial arts is suddenly much higher.
He recently founded a club among his group of friends called the Bird Protection Society. It was established after he found a bird's nest in some Pampas grass near a playground at his school. The kids in the group took turns making sure no one else went near the nest, keeping it as undisturbed as possible.
When we go on our morning walks, he gives us all plastic grocery bags so we can pick up litter along the way.
He just turned nine, and I am in awe of him.

Oh, and I should mention that the Princess has mad please-and-thank you skills. She even says, "You welcome" sometimes. And she shares, and she folds her hands to pray before we eat or during prayers.

Ahhh, sleep! The greatest gift a baby can give.
My 2 year old actually said the whole bedtime prayer by herself the other night. And it was occasion specific - she said "Thank you for the bed."
She sure doesn't share, though. Well, she'll occasionally share bites with mommy. But she doesn't share ANYTHING with her siblings.
As we've been swimming a lot lately, she's always wanting to put on her "simsoup". It cracks me up whenever I hear it. "Where my simsoup, mommy?"
