...history, action, that is.

OK. Here's the story. It's 1 AM. I've been studying/working for around 8 hours now. I've memorized around 100 history terms, learnt all about Hosea, learnt about sequences, and am getting tired.

I can't think straight, basically.

I have the follow questions to study...but am having difficulty coming up with good answers. Any ideas? Just rough outlines, please, no need to waste your time ^^.

a) Compare and contrast Wilson's domestic policies with those of Coolidge.
b) Economic growth and improved standard of living in 1920s benefitted only a minoritiy of American. Argue for or against this opinion.
c) How did the experiences and characteristics of the "new" immigrants of 1880-1914 period compare to those of the "old" immigrants, who came before them?
d) Was the intervention in Nicaragua defendable? What were its foreign policy, ethical, and Constitunial implications?

I know it's a lot, but I'm at the end of my rope here...thanks ^^.

*sings to herself and the world in general, not necessarily directed at anyone on Hatrack and certainly not Phanto...*

Do your own homework,
It is good for you.
Do your own homework,
You'll learn something new.
Don't ask for our opinion
Without offering your own;
We'll help you clarify,
Won't make you go it alone,
But we won't just do it for you
That won't help you much
To learn about your subject
And build character and such.
So do your own homework,
It's so good for you;
Do your own homework,
You'll learn something new.

*walks off whistling*

Man, I don't like resisting. It's futile.

 I'm soft hearted and need to think about these things for comps. It's your lucky day. [Smile]

quote:
a) Compare and contrast Wilson's domestic policies with those of Coolidge.
Wilson = apotheosis of progressivism; New Nationalism policies directed towards federal control of the economy. Key policies - creation of the Fed; strengthening trust prosecution.
Coolidge = government hands off of business. Wealthy financier Andrew Mellon as Treasury Secretary. Key policies - tariffs up; taxes down.

quote:
b) Economic growth and improved standard of living in 1920s benefitted only a minoritiy of American. Argue for or against this opinion.
This seems like a weird opinion question since I imagine it could be documented. I'd talk about rising consumerism - credit cards, mail order catalogs, etc - versus ongoing economic problems for farmers. Also the African American Great Migration from sharecropping to urban Northern cities.

quote:
c) How did the experiences and characteristics of the "new" immigrants of 1880-1914 period compare to those of the "old" immigrants, who came before them?
New immigrants = Southern European, Asian; often Catholic, less able linguistically and culturally to blend. Generally urban, industrial workers.
Old immigrants = British, Irish, German; often Protestant, lingustically and culturally easier blending, except for Irish, as Gangs of New York will teach you, although there's a fascinating book out there called How the Irish Became White. Many in cities, but German and Brit particularly move west and settle.

d) Was the intervention in Nicaragua defendable? What were its foreign policy, ethical, and Constitunial implications?
Which one?

I take it the exam is tomorrow then?

This, obviously is why you should study before hand, since cramming is usually a waste of time.

Not for some of us...

It's actually today. And this isn't "homework" because it's not something you hand in; it's a study guide that will give you some idea of what kind of questions will be asked ^^.

Nicaragua: The intervention with the Sastiana, the modern one, with the CIA.

Thanks MattB! ^^ I will *never* glomp you.

Studying for a test is homework. It's work, for school, that you are expected to do on your own time. That's homework.

Oh.

Well it's a good with I've got didactic, sarcastic people like you to point out my flaws. Thanks. And it's a good thing that, although you were initally set to resist replying, and even went so far as to publicly post your "resistence" by, well, replying, you managed to overcome.

I would like to point out that I didn't say anything to Phanto. I was just singing to myself. [Razz]
