I found what I believe to be an inconsistency between Ender's Game and Shadow of the Giant. Can anyone help me confirm this, as I seem to have misplaced my copy of Ender's Game.

While it may be a minor detail, it was one that caught my attention and had me dwelling on it untill the last page of the book.

In Shadow of the Giant, when Peter was talking to Ender via Ansible, he had a two-fold reason for not using a video channel: for one, he didn't want Ender to see how old he'd gotten(and to see how young Ender is) and for two, the Ansible talks were expensive enough just using audio, without video eating the bandwidth.

Now I distinctly remember, and I could be wrong, Ender being disturbed by how old Peter looked. This is at the end of Ender's Game. I also have an older copy(Ender's War), it may have been updated. Again, I seem to have misplaced it in my recent move.

If anyone feels up to double-checking this for me, I'd be greatly interested in finding out. I've been an Ender fan since my mom handed me Ender's Game over 10 years ago, and only last night did I finish Shadow of the Giant.

My copy (from about seven years ago) says nothing to that effect. It says, "When Valentine was twenty-five years old, she finished the last volume of her history of the bugger wars. She included at the end the complete text of Ender's little book, but did not say that Ender wrote it.
By ansible she got an answer from the ancient Hegemon, Peter Wiggin, seventy-seven years old with a failing heart.
"I know who wrote it," he said. "If he can speak for the buggers, surely he can speak for me."
Back and forth across the ansible Ender and Peter spoke, with Peter pouring out the story of his days and years, his crimes and his kindnesses. And when he died, Ender wrote a second volume, again signed by the Speaker for the Dead. Together his two books were called the Hive-Queen and the Hegemon, and they were holy writ." (page 323)

That's all mine says. However, I HAVE noticed a typo in my edition: on page 222, just before Ender recieved his command school orders, it says, "Ender got to his fee." I do believe "fee" is supposed to be "feet." Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks Tinros. I swear I remember Ender feeling something about Peter getting old, and noting how it was visible. I must be wrong, though - a change like that wouldn't be made untill Shadow of the Giant had come out, I think - or only shortly before, when Card had made the descision that there was no video.

Either way, it seems he made the decision long before. I'll dig for my old copy of Ender's War when I get home tonight.

There's a scene in Speaker (also in Ender's War) in which Ender expresses surprise at how much Valentine has aged in the (to him) few months since he left.
