It's cherry blossom season! They haven't come out yet, but the two-week festival started on Saturday. Today was kite-flying on the Mall. It was so much fun to see people out and about. It's so different than the cold months of winter where you hardly seen anyone out ever. But today there were people scattered all throughout the Mall, flying kites and playing soccer. It was a grand time. I'll keep you updated on the going-ons throughout the festival. Heck, maybe I'll even post a couple pictures of the cherry blossoms. For my first spring in DC, it's shaping up to be a great one!

I've been there (DC) for the cherry blossoms many times. It's lovely. Do post pictures if you take any.

Christy and I went down last year (and got to hang out with Chris and Karl, among others); it was absolutely fantastic. [Smile] Honestly, if you can somehow magically delete the crowds from your mental picture, the cherry blossoms in D.C. are one of the Great Things to See.

Oh, you are giving me "saudades" as they say in Portuguese . . . (closest translation is nostalgia). Anyway, for years I would go down with some friends every year before work to the Tidal Basin. We'd take breakfast and walk around and watch the sun rise when the cherry blossoms were in bloom. That's the way to magically delete the crowds! Such a beautiful thing to do.

Would love to go see the cherries in bloom in Japan, Ryuko!

Have fun. I'm usually there for the Cherry Blossom (Rugby) Tournament, which is next weekend, but my team's not going this year. [Frown]

This'll be the first year in over a decade I'm going to miss the blooms. So take lots of good pictures. [Smile]

I just got back from DC. I was sorry I got to miss most of the festival. But seeing as I am moving there in six weeks, I will have plenty of opportunities in the years to come. I really was amazed at all there was to do in the city aside from the touristy stuff. And I miss the public transportation already.

I heard the cherry blossoms came in early in Tokyo this year. *digs around for a link*

Aha! Found it. Linky

The cherry blossoms will probably be long gone by the time I get to Tokyo. Oh well.

Not yet. I haven't had time to go to the tidal basin, but I'm thinking of going on saturday. Hopefully then I'll get some good pics.

On another note, I have pictures of spring in DC, but not necessarily cherry blossoms. I'll post those, if you want.

I went down yesterday morning at sunrise. Really quite beautiful, but pretty crowded despite the time.
