Has anyone seen this movie? I heard about this movie a few months ago when one of my relatives sent me a link with some propaganda about the movie in an attempt to get me to sign a petition to get the movie dropped from Oscar contention. I didn't pay it much attention because I get a lot of forwards from my family which are usually either Jewish or Republican propaganda(we are russian jewish immigrants and my whole entire family is gung ho republican). But I remember that the gist of it was that this movie was horrible and anti-semitic and an insult to jews everywhere and was filth and so on.

I'm home for the weekend now and somehow this movie comes up and again my family talks about how they're shocked that a movie like that exists. In their words, "a movie that is pro suicide bombing and anti Isreal". I don't say much, because though I don't know anything about the movie, I know that none of them have seen it, and the only things they do know about it, I'm sure they read in email forwards condemning the movie.

I just went and looked up as many reviews as I could find, also specifically searching out reviews written by jews or coming from other religious groups websites. From what I've been able to gather, the movie seems to be a pretty honest and thought provoking portrayal of the "palestinian point of view". Sure that view is going to be inherently biased. I wouldn't expect this movie to equally portray both sides of the issue. Now, I did find a few reviews that called the movie filth. But none of those reviews were from any sort of professional publications and a few were some sort of conspiracy theories saying the movie was a nazi german funded ant-semitic propaganda film. I never trust sites that write everything in bold.

Anyway, I'm curious as to whether anyone here has seen it, and what you thought about it. Also, if you're jewish, please include that information. I refrained from saying anything at all earlier when it was brought up, because other than an inkling that the movie couldn't be as bad as they were making it out to be, I really didn't have any information. I'd like to be able to say to them, "look, these jewish people all saw it and said it was a film with merit". Whether they see it or not is unimportant. It's the fact that they're so against it without any real knowledge of it.

No, but it sounds intriguing. I don't think we get to hear Palestinian viewpoints very often here in the states. If you do watch it, tell us what you think.

I think I might have to see it now, just so I can decide for myself. I spent some time talking to my mother last night about how I didn't think it was fair to judge the movie, when no one had seen it, but at the same time defending it, when 'I' hadn't seen it.
