I remember browsing this very cool site that sold all sorts of unusual and adorable socks, at CT's prompting, but I don't think I saved a link to it, and I'm totally afraid to google for "sock fetish" to try and find it again. [Big Grin]

Does anyone know what I mean who can link me to that place again? It was very cool, and I'd like to find some sort of actual tights or something to wear to work instead of the stockings that they call tights but that tear up every single time I wear them. I can't afford to buy a new pair of stockings every single work day. [Smile]

Thanks for asking this AK...I was wanting to know it too earlier this winter when I wanted warmer socks. I'm a dummy though...I never thought to just ask. Duh. [Smile]

Thanks CT from me too.

Really, the customer service could not be better, and I've been using the socks I got from her for years (over-the-knees and some leg-warmers). Be sure to let me know if you have any bad experiences, so I can update my recommendations list.

Yay!

They're so adorable! I'm totally getting some of the striped thigh highs! I almost hope we get some more cold weather so I can wear them before the fall. [Smile]

We should have a hatrack girls' party and dress up in these and other fun clothes, and do each other's hair, makeup, fingernails and stuff. Plus giggle and eat popcorn, play fun music and dance, and get tipsy on pink gatorade. Oh, and talk about the boys. [Big Grin] Don't let's tell them we are, though, okay? It'll be a secret.

Oh my goodness! I must have missed this the first time but I *love* this site. Thanks for sharing!

[Smile]

All of my purchases came carefully and prettily wrapped in tissue paper with a lovely ribbon.

It's really too bad engineers have to dress so conservatively! I could totally get away with wearing stuff like this to work when I was a programmer. Programmers are supposed to be weird! The weirder the better! It positively enhances your status as a good programmer to be weird. [Smile]

Engineers are so stodgy, pfoo!

Wow I just want them all! Somebody stop me! [Wink]

My work's firewall blocked the site due to sexual content.

Noemon, mine too.

I'm checking it out at home now instead.

I love this site! If I get a new job I may order a few socks from them.

And leg warmers . And arm warmers. Somebody stop me too!

Just to be clear, there is nothing on the site that I wouldn't be happy to have anyone's grandmother or toddler see from over my shoulder. It is fun, quirky, and flirty, but that's about it.

[Smile]

Edited to add: And yes, Tatiana, a sleepover party!

Could someone explain me how to convert French shoes sizes into American sizes? My size is 40 and I have no idea what I should order if I pick up some socks.

According to this site it looks like you'd wear a 9.

Mmmm ... cashmere and angora blend over-the-knees. Currently out of stock, but if they come in I'm stocking up (heh, heh) for next winter in Canada. [NB: Made in US]

And astonishingly expensive angora thigh-highs. [Smile] That would be a good treat for some major accomplishment, I think. [NB: custom-made in Scotland]

And Niqkita assures that no rabbits are harmed in the collection of angora.

Is your move coming that soon? Man, time flies.

Yes. Our positions here at UW are up come June 30, so we'll definitely be in Canada then. Hopefully Dave will get the position he's applied for, and I hope I'll have my next fellowship. Our future work life is all up in the air for now, though.

Unbleached and undyed wool thigh-highs for $13/pair. A steal!

[Made in USA]

Posted by Tatiana (Member # 6776) on :

I'm probably going to have to wait until the fall to wear almost any of these! The first time I've ever envied people with cold weather!

Niqkita is funny and nice! She giggled at the comment I made with my email. You can tell she's still as excited and happy about these coolio socks as we all are. What a fun place! [Smile]

Well, since everyone seems to be enjoying this site so much, I think I'll unmayflyize this thread. Someone else might stumble across it who wants to know, plus we'll be wanting a place to rave about our purchases when they arrive, I'm sure! [Smile]

So could it be said that when Papa Janitor deletes a thread he's forcibly mayflyzzorating it?

Posted by Theaca (Member # 8325) on :

I'd picture that more as being forcibly Mayflyzapped. Or maybe not. Hmmm.

Okay, I went a little crazy with the sock purchases and I can't wait for them to arrive. [Big Grin] Seriously! I wonder how long they're gonna take???? I ordered them like yesterday! Why aren't they here yet????? <checks outside the front door again just in case the UPS guy delivered them after hours, or maybe that's his truck coming down the hill now...>

[Big Grin]

I hope hope hope you like them. You must be frank if you don't, though -- recommendations aren't any good if they are not True.

(I think you will, I think you will!)

CT, I always love your recommendations! I bought both Alton Brown's cookbooks and love them. I got that Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps and think they're wonderful. If you recommend something, then I know it's gold!

I looked over that sock place thoroughly a few months ago and found nothing I liked at all. I guess I just like boring socks. [Frown]

Although, now that I look again, some of the anklet styles looked cute, if they came in colors I like better.

My socks have arrived! I really love the black and white horizontal striped stockings, but it's odd that the ones called thigh-highs are only over the knee and the OTK ones are actually thigh high. [Smile] That isn't a problem except the over the knee ones don't want to stay up. They roll down, which isn't cool. Back when thigh high stockings were popular, I learned to love them for the feeling of freedom and because if you tear up one, the other is still good, which halves the mortality rate compared to pantyhose. But they all seemed to have in those days a sort of band at the top of rubbery stretchy stuff that made them stay up just great. It was sort of like what dried rubber cement might feel like, but in a durable and stretchable band for about 1" on the inside top of the stockings. These don't have that band, none of them, and so they don't seem to stay up nearly as well. That's rather unfortunate, though I suppose I could add some sort of garter system to get around that problem.

The thigh-high ones are staying up pretty well without any such aids, actually. Probably because of the geometry of where they sit on my legs. They are really cute, too! I have got to think of a place to wear them! I wonder if they would be suitable for casual Friday at work? [Smile] I work for a really conservative place now, so I don't know if I want to call that much attention to myself. [Smile] But I am dying to wear them somewhere.

The tights ended up being a funky color. I ordered "wheat" thinking it would be a sort of natural color that was nearly white, but instead they are a pale natural greenish. It's a pretty color but I can't think of anything I have that they would look good with. I may send them back.

They came wrapped in brightly colored strings of yarn. No tissue paper but a nice package. Fun stuff but it will take a while to learn what things work for me.

The ones I like contain Angora [Frown] I can't wear Angora, I can wear Mohair (which is from the angora goat) but not the rabbit hair.
