Figured I'd give it a shot. Anyone interested in meeting up, catching a concert, going to one of eight million coffee shops, hitting up the EMP, going to Pike's, or just generally causing havoc?

I know mistaben and Princess Leah are in Seattle. Anyone else relatively near here that'd be down to waste some time?

Oops, not in Seattle at the moment. Higher learning has transplanted me. I'd love to waste time...um...this summer...when I *might* be home...

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

I dunno about general havoc -- it'd need to be pretty specifically planned.

[Razz]

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Me too. I might be able to make something if it was well planned out in advance. A summer trip to Enchanted Forest might be fun...I haven't been there since I was a kid.

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Sorry, I meant specifically planned eventually, but didn't want to commit to something right off the bat . [Smile]

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

I've never been to Enchanted Forest, can you believe it? I'd love to do that or catch a Renaissance faire with you all some time. [Smile] Or anything else for that matter. There's always Powell's in Portland, though that's not too fun for the kids.

*loves PacNW gatherings*

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

*ponders the merits of a trip to the ocean to play in the sand and explore the local area -- such as Port Townsend and the batteries (or however you refer to the remnents of WWII installations*

Narnia said Ren Faire! Gig Harbor is my home Faire. Y'all need to meet me there anyway!

I'd be up for some kind of Seattle thing, especially if it's daytime, I don't drive much further north than there or much further south then Oly.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

When is Renn Fair in Gig Harbor? I'd be up for that. We've got really good friends in Poulsbo, who my hubby could go visit while I'm out playing with you guys. He doesn't mind Hatrack, but it's not really his thing.

While I'm not opposed to attending a gathering, it will just depend on what's going on in my family. Two adults and two children means a busy household!

Saturdays are often semi-open, holidays, UW's spring break, etc.

First three weekends in August.

I have extra adult tunics, too.

I take it, then, that when you say Enchanted Forest, you don't mean the real one? I haven't been there since I was a kid, either...

If this were three years ago, I'd be in. [Big Grin]

Oh boy...I meant Enchanted VILLAGE. The one near Seattle. I remembered it being called Enchanted Forest. But Six Flags says it's Enchanted Village. But now I'm thinking it would be fun to see that one up in BC. Maybe a long weekend trip for the family this summer....

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

ooohhhh, ooohhhh, I want to! (And so does Nathan, I'm sure . . . *grin*)

Posted by Shigosei (Member # 3831) on :

I was wondering why all you'd want to come all the way down to Salem from Washington just to go to Enchanted Forest...

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

*laughs* Yeah, that's why I Googled it. I figured there had to be something else. [Smile]

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

I live about 10 minutes from Enchanted Village.

Also, I have a membership to The Pt. Defiance Zoo, so I'm always up for a trip there!

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Awesome - I'm lovin' the response. Does someone far more organized and responsible than me want to take a stab at putting something together?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

I think that would be Shan. *ducks*

Posted by Celaeno (Member # 8562) on :

I'm up in Seattle rather frequently. With enough advanced notice, maybe I could plan my next trip around the same time as this gathering.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Me!?!?!?!

*lobs rotten tomato at Jenna*

But Jenna! You do such a great job organizing -- and if we're looking at a weekend Ren Faire, and you have the inside scoop . . . *grin and ducks in return*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

OK! I will organize a Ren Faire or Zoo meet. Also if anyone wants to meet in Shakabrah Java in Tacoma to see some great Celtic music.

Anything else, someone else has to do.

(Tosses rotten tomato in compost. Thanks Shannon, my roses needed that!)

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

Whoa...Heather Alexander is performing in the area? Cool! Tacoma is a bit far for us for just an evening, but now I know that she's also performing in Everett the next night....

Dougie MacLean is here too, romany...I think he's performing in Seattle on the 18th. Just FYI if you've never seen him in concert before. He's really great. We were thinking of going.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

I don't think I can do the 18th this month, I work. But maybe if he's playing another time.

Yep, Heather plays there every month.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Ooohhh - - that sounds like great fun, too.

*grins*

So many fun things to do! So little time!

Posted by Nato (Member # 1448) on :

Well, if my tentative plans to get a used car soon work out, I would love to go on a trip. I'll bookmark this thread and check back on it.

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

I may be able to make it down to Seattle. It's a bit of a drive, but with any luck I could convince my parents to let me steal the car for a while.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Wistfully contemplates the show on the 24th . . . I'd really like to go to that, Jenna -- but Nathan and I are leaving early AM the next day for a sledding trip.

*sigh*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

When is Nathan on break? I owe you guys a trip to the zoo, I think.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

That's sweet, Jenna -- you don't owe us, though! We'd love to go to the zoo with you and the children! Nathan's on mid-winter break the week of the 20th. I am taking that Friday off . . .

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Is that a date?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Hey! You bet! I can do a day trip and still function for sledding the day after! (It's just the evening stuff before big day trips that I can't hang with anymore . . . ahhhh, age.)

Will/shall this be an open Jatraquero get-together? Arrive at opening (10 a.m.?) or later in the afternoon? I hear that the weather is supposed to stay clear and cold and sunny.

Picnic lunches again?

*excited*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Yeah, let's make it an open Jatra event. Maybe make it closer to 10:30?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Sounds good.

Eros -- your planning committee arranged the event. Change the title, would ya, so people know what's going on?

*grin*

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Bumpity bump bump bump!

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

So to confirm before I change the thread title - zoo on Friday the 24th at 10:30 a.m., open invitation to Hatrackers, bring a picnic lunch, kid-friendly setting?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Yeppers. Jenna?

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Oh, and which zoo?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

The zoo in Tacoma -- Pt. Defiance. I believe Jenna had it linked up there somewhere.

*scrolls up*

yep -- Jenna is romanylass. She provided a link.

*smile*

Posted by Juxtapose (Member # 8837) on :

I might be able to borrow a car.

Unless ero is driving, in which case I'll carjack 'im.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Carpooling has been a proven technique for getting to these shindigs before . . .

*grin*

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

I have to work that day, but you guys have fun. [Smile] I'm still up for the ren faire or Enchanted Village on a Saturday some time.

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

I'll actually be in Seattle that day, although I won't be free until some point after noon, likely.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

I'll talk to hubby and see if he's up for it. We haven't been to the Pt Defiance Zoo together. And hopefully it will warm up a little before the 24th. It's chilly out, though awfully pretty.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Yep, it's on my calendar!

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

*sulks*

Is there no way to get this thing started a couple hours earlier? I know it means getting up early, but I fly out of Seattle around noon that day. Have, like, breakfast in a park or something so I can at least say hi?

I've never been out west before, and all of a sudden there's a Hatrack gathering the day I leave. And I can't go. [Razz] to you all.

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

ack! you want to drag me out of bed even earlier?

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

[Taunt] I never would have noticed if it weren't in your MSN name, so it's your own silly fault.

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

*bump* Anyone?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

The zoo doesn't open until 9:30, but with enough coffee I'd be willing to meet you somewherew beforehand. Let's see, you'll be flying out of SeaTac, right? One area I'm not familiar with. Or, we could meet another day before that.

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Eaquae, where in Seattle will you be? I'm sure Juxtapose and I could bomb out of bed early enough to get coffee if you're anywhere near us.

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

Well, I'm only going to be in Seattle the one day, for my flight. So, at the airport was the original plan. Be in Vancouver area the rest of the trip.

I guess I can't really make any firm plans without consulting my illustrious cabbie (poor Rei, there), so I will get back to you.

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

I have to see about getting my parents to relax about letting me drive "in a foreign country".

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

If you're coming south from Vancouver, you'll pass our neighborhood on the way to SeaTac. If I have my car fixed by then, I can meet you pretty much anywhere along the way, including in the neighborhood around the airport.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

However, if you're heading north from the other Vancouver, we could have coffee in Olympia on your way to SeaTac . . . *grin*

Posted by ReikoDemosthenes (Member # 6218) on :

[Razz] We're actually heading south from Abbotsford, through the Sumas crossing as that's closest to my house.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Hmphhh.

*sniffs*

Fine . . .

*grin*

Posted by JonnyNotSoBravo (Member # 5715) on :

Unfortunately, I can't make it due to house activities that are already planned that day. Have fun you guys!

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

So, let's see what we have here:

"Yes! We are going to the Zoo!" includes Jenna and children, Shan and child, Eros (your putative host - never mind whose plotting behind the scenes . . . *grin*) and Juxtapose (?)

"No! Drat it all!" includes JNSB and Narnia. *sad*

"Maybe, depending on [fill in the blank]" includes Nato, Juxtapose, Eaquae, ReikoD, and jenniwren and family. *fingers crossed in anticipation of positive yes's*

Some Zoo folks might want to meet-up earlier for coffee, and/or find an afternoon haunt? What's the scoop?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

They have an espresso bar at the zoo, of course. I can do either- I just need to get home in time to get a semblance of dinner on the table before going to see Heather.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Yes, leaving by 3 pm would be my preference, as I really detest Friday I-5 traffic . . . *grimace*

But, earlier for an espresso first is groovy.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

OK, where is good?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

How about Marlene's ? Probably the Tacoma one. I'm open to other suggestions, though.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Bump. Anyone?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Hmmm. I'm happy to meet at the Zoo and have an espresso there, Jenna. In reading the earlier posts, it sounded like there were some travelers that wanted to have coffee earlier than "zoo-opening." But, in the absence of their input, I vote for coffee at the zoo. *smile*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

That's easier, certainly.

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Barring something very unusual (like me rediscovering meaningful employment this week), I'll be there, as will Juxtapose (because I'll be knocking him unconscious and dragging).

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

*blinks at the visions that inspires*

Well, then ... one lump or two?

*grin*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Heaps up- Livvie has been sick, and still seems under the weather. I'm hoping, since we have two days, she'll be back to her cheery, hyperactive self by then. Cross your fingers! Is she's still droopy, all y'alls can come here for coffee. (She was sick long enough ago that I'm not worried about contagin.)

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Update- Just got back from the doc, and it looks like a no-go. [Frown] It's viral so there's nothing we can do but push fluids and let it run it's course. However, if anyone can still make Shakabrah that night, cover fee's on me.

Posted by jeniwren (Member # 2002) on :

It's a no for me. It might have been a yes, but the hard drives on both of my computers crashed within four days of each other. I couldn't work at all until about 2 hours ago (I'm a telecommuter...no work gets done when I have no computer. It has been a very interesting past 6 days.)

So I'm in a flurry to catch up on work. Sorry. Can't take Friday off.

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Egad! My (well, Shan & romany's) gathering is disintegrating!

Should we try for rescheduling, so more people can go? Sounds like the fates don't want this to happen this week.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Rescheduling sounds good -- now that you've seen how the game goes, Eros, are you feeling up to the challenge of scheduling on your own? [Wink]

Jenna -- give Livvie a get-well hug; and give yourself one for the 28th.

Good luck with the work flurry, jeniwren!

*smile*

P.S. Eros -- remember to change the thread title!

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

I feel bad.

However, Shan, I will be in Oly Monday if she's better. Fever down, Yay! Still not eating. [Frown] She's 7 and weighs 39 lbs)

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Well, you give me a call if you want to get together for a cup of coffee in the morning, hear?

I'll e-mail my work and cell to you.

Hugs and appetite vibes to Livvie.

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

I don't feel so bad now that Reiko and I missed the festivities. Alas, I am now home in Ontario and won't be able to come at all, but at least it wasn't a case of missing you all by that much.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Well, Nathan and I went to the zoo anyhow, because it had been so long since we had been there. Quite fascinating, the renovating they are doing. Plus -- after being such a well-behaved boy for 2.5 days of mommy working 10-hour days in the home office, he deserved an outing . . . *grin*

That sure says something about one's office environment, when one can get more work done at home with a child on mid-winter break, than one can in the office . . .

We were sorry to miss you all! Next time?!?!?

*smile*

Posted by erosomniac (Member # 6834) on :

Yes! I refuse to let this idea be abandoned.

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

Cool! The Tacoma museum is really neat, too -- as a potential thought . . . or the Elbe steam train trip, or a day hike in the mountains, or a day playing near the ocean . . . *grin*

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

Yep, I do want to do something.

(but not this week, we are in Round 2, the sick boys [Frown] )

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

No, not this week, and not until spring break, for me. (Which, if I recall, happens during Holy Week, so probably not then, either, with a service nearly every day of that week.) Work is going into very busy mode, with lots of travel --and spring sports will be starting up for Nathan soon, and, and, and . . . luncheons and/or coffee -- that I can do! Until the next three-day weekend? Which is in May, yes?

Tell your boys to feel better soon!

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

You peoples need to have Pac NW gatherings farther south.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

How far south, Mr Funny?

What do you mean? This is the first one far enough north that I stand a chance to make it [Razz]

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

He means Oregon. [Smile] Like....Corvalis. I'd settle for up north and on a weekend, but that's because I have vehiculage.

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

I think Portland is my ABSOLUTE limit.

Posted by Mr.Funny (Member # 4467) on :

A hatrack get-together in Corvallis would be awesome, except for the minor detail that there's nothing interesting to do in Corvallis. But it'd be very easy for me to go to [Razz]

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

How about a weekend camping trip somewhere along the Columbia on the Portland/Washington border?

Posted by romanylass (Member # 6306) on :

You mean someplace with chowers and potties, right?

Posted by Shan (Member # 4550) on :

No, I mean three miles into the backcountry, carrying three days worth of food and water, and a spade for burying, um . . . . let's see -- ah yes! The bunnies in "Watership Down" called it hraka.

*giggle*

Of course, showers and toilets. I'm not as mean as my dad was to us kids. He took us camping for a week at a time and expected us to catch and clean our dinner, and wash our long hair in the freezing Rocky Mountains creek water . . . brrrr.

Actually -- we had great fun as kids, and I'm probably a horrible mom for not doing the same thing with my son . . .

*sigh*

I almost feel bad about that . . .

*grin*
