As I said on the "My love for Medieval weapons and armor..." thread, I'm thinking of going renaissance for my prom dress.

I found a dress at Leather Wolffe Creations that I love(there are a few style things I would change, but they customize all dresses, so it's not a biggie) that's only about $90. It's German Gothic, and it's sooo pretty. (I would post a picture, but for some reason I can't find a picture of that style of dress...hmm...)

I just thought I'd throw this out there to see if any of the ladies on Hatrack(or any of the guys, for that matter) could give me some advice on dresses.

I'm not sure what German Gothic would look like but it definately sounds interesting, I'd love to see a picture, if you could find one.

Might be a dumb question, but are you saying that the dress is leather? Or that's just the store name?

That's just the store name. THe dress would be a synthectic velvet.

Actually, I found a picture using Altavista's image search, but when I clicked on it, the site that had the dress told me, "We no longer carry this item. Sorry for the inconvenience."

If I get the time, I'll try to describe it, but right now, I have other thigns that need doing.

Are any of these even close?

You found a dress like THAT for only $90????

*jealous*

This one is almost the same style, but I like forest green more.

Yeah, actually, I did, Dragon. THe one in the link above(mine) is almost the exact same style... at five times the price. And they do all the fittings and alterations for free.

Did you all know last year I bought a katana for $100? They have almost the same exact one at Leather Wolffe... but better quality, useable in battle- spring steel. $40. I felt quite cheated, and I'll probably never go in the other place(the one where I bought the Katana) ever again.

How beautiful!

awww, I was thinking more of a dress of armour type thing. But this is definately better. Much prettier. If I saw a girl wearing a dress like that I'd ... ummm ... uhh .... eh hem ... think it was really really awesome. Yeah. eh hem. [Blushing]

Hey, you got a date to your prom? [Hat] [Wave]

If you feel beautiful in it, then you should get it. That's really all prom is about, but it's more than enough.

I think this is an awesome kind of dress and would definitely stick out among the waves of typical dresses.

Oh wow, that's gorgeous. What color would the green part on the dress in the picture be if the main color on the one you want is green?

That makes me miss being in madrigals...I loved having an excuse to dress up like a medieval princess! (And wander around singing in other languages.) [Smile]

It's beautiful! You'd be a medevil princess!

(secretly I'm relieved that it's NOT leather...whew!)

I'd like it to be an overdress(the one with the big V shape) of forest green, while the underdress(the green in the original)would be black, and either a tan or probably white shirt underneath.

I showed some of the designs to my mom, and she said she didn't like them, saying they weren't "formal" enough. Personally, I don't care about formality. I caused a bit of a stir when I wore a corset to Homecoming. But this might take a bit of convincing... or saving up my own money, which, since the dress is cheaper at Leather Wolffe, shouldn't be too hard.

And Dr Strangelove... where do you live? I'm quite single, and looking... [Wink]

Actually, the place that sells all this makes "public" chainmail- chainmail you can't see through, so you can wear JUST the mail in public. They've made a few dresses out of it before, and people have worn them for weddings and feasts and things like that.
