We'll have to see which books, how they are done, etc.

Oh, no. No no no no no no no! This is something the world does not need. As much as I respect Raimi, there is no movie he can make in this situation that will not suck.
The book in question is a great book. But it's also a CHILDREN'S book -- which is no doubt why it was easier to greenlight, since children's fantasy sells bucketloads nowadays, especially with British accents tacked on -- and a Braveheart parody. Which means half the jokes are either a) going to go away for legal reasons or b) feel obvious and awkward.

The Nac Mac Feegle are NOT "family oriented entertainment." This is such a bad move.

I'm just trying to imagine translating the line "do ye maher soo, pallie" into American. Posted by Swampjedi (Member # 7374) on :
Dang, this isn't good. I love Discworld, but I don't know if I want to see them made into movies. Especially not for American audiences.

They already made a couple of animated movies of Discword books which weren't so good. I don't know... they might be able to do something Princess Bride-y with it, but somehow I really doubt it. The books are quite cinematic as it is. I think I'll probably hate a Discworld movie for much the same reasons as I hated the Hitchhiker's Guide movie - I love the books so much that I quote them in general conversation.
I just hope it doesn't turn out to be 'The Borrowers' on Discworld, but you just know that they'll make the Nac Mac's cute.

I actually quite liked "Soul Music."

I've been waiting for it for years It was just obvious that some day somebody was going to do it. But I'd prefer to see a movie based on a different book. I don't know, maybe something like the Fifth Elephant or what? Pratchett's turns more and more towards satire, and while he's not so roaringly funny as he was (eg in the light fantastic), I think the plots now are better. The fifth elephant could be quite a thriller
And even if I don't like the movie, I won't have to watch it twice _and_ I'll have fun saying all kinds of bad things about it Posted by Bean Counter (Member # 6001) on :
Why note Vimes or Cohen or Mort or any of the grownup ones? Oh well all part of the recent trend, nothing breeds imitation like success.
