ok, I have a Sapphire Radeon X300SE, and Windows XP Home Media Edition.

Problems: My games only work well on lower end settings and games like Civ4 or Battlefield 1942 crash on my either during game play or shockingly enough when I exit the game.

I have a gig of ram.

Other problems: When my computer crashes it doesn't just make that whirring noise and go kaboom, it goes brain dead, not, thinking, the screen is frozen where it is and not even my keyboard lights work.

Final Problem: My DVD burner/cd burner (same drive) had at first would not burn either DVD's or CD's, the solution according to MDG (my computer store) was that it was a software error and I had to format my computer, it worked, and several crashes later my computer will not burn cd's but will burn dvd's.

My belief is that the crashing and corrupted DVD software are related, and maybe I need to install windows with a different cd, anyone think that this may be so?

I had a similar problem. I went to my cd and dvd player's homepage, and I found a bios flash update. I thought bios flashes were only for the motherboard, but I guess sometimes you can get an individual hardware flash. Now it works great.

I suggest not installing widows on your computer. They always make video cards crash.
