Well Hatrack, I'm officially engaged. [Big Grin]

I haven't been around the forum that much lately, but I thought that those of you who still remember me might want to know.

There's a ring on my finger...and it sparkles. [Big Grin]

I will be getting married in Los Angeles on May 5, 2006 to the love of my life. We're an unusual couple for BYU students. We've been dating for a year and three months, and I've known him for four and a half years. I've known we were going to get married since last spring. In a world of short courtships and quick engagements, we're among the slowest. But now it's official. And I couldn't be happier.

Yep. There's a ring on my finger, and it means I'm taken. [Big Grin]

Now if it weren't for those pesky finals this week... [Wink]

Congratulations!

Boy, a 6 month engagement - you *are* an unusual BYU couple! [Wink]

Enjoy the sparkles. In some jewellry stores (I know Tiffany's does it) they have special lights which make diamonds sparkle more. If you can find one go in and look at your ring, because it will look *amazing*.

(I discovered this in the Tiffany's in Melbourne: we were walking around and I was marvelling how much all the diamonds were sparkling, and how it must be because they were such good quality. Then I happened to glance at my ring and it was sparkling along with the best of them!)

Thanks guys! I'm still floating...and currently avoiding a somewhat large project that's due in the morning. *innocent look*

Ashley- Cool! How nice to share a special day! Now I'll always remember your birthday. [Smile]

Miro- Already have. [Cool] He hasn't registered here yet, but he's lurked around. And he played mafia on galacticcactus with me last month. It's only a matter of time. *evil laugh*

Yay Jen! I remember I had one BYU class in a building where the lights particularly set off my brand-spanking-new engagement ring (one of the HFAC theatres, I can't remember the name). I would spend way too much class time entranced by the sparkley. [Big Grin]

That's much longer than a friend I had at BYU. 6 weeks from first date to temple...

They started dating in the summer and decided they didn't want to go a semester dating so got married before the fall started...

*bump in case people didn't see this the first time (specifically Narnia)*

I just went shopping for wedding dresses today! [Smile] Fun times...

And thanks for the congrats, everyone!

Ooh! That is fun! Describe to us your dream dress.

Posted by hansenj (Member # 4034) on :

Thanks, rivka! I hadn't realized you didn't see this the first time! [Smile]

My dream dress has 3/4 sleeves, a square neckline, an empire waist, a full skirt with a chiffon overlay that splits in the front with very delicate beading and embroidery. [Big Grin]

However, after today, I have realized that this style is not necessarily the best for my body, and there are many other beautiful styles out there. [Smile] I don't want to describe the one I liked most though, because I want to surprise Paul (and he will probably read this thread). I have already described my dream dress to him, so that didn't matter. [Big Grin]

Mazel tov! May you have a long and happy life together.

BTW, your dream wedding dress is almost exactly what my wedding dress looked like. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kira_marx/detail?.dir=e208&.dnm=e9db.jpg&.src=ph

You're getting married in L.A. and I'm not invited? [Razz]

I had a dream dress for my wedding - strapless, elegant, straight skirt.

Then I went shopping and realised my dream dress looked hopeless on my figure!

(A big bust does not a strapless dress flatter.)

The dress I ended up getting was completely different, but I loved it.

Congratulations and best wishes for a future filled with many laughs [Laugh] , wonderful memories [Smile] , and much love [Blushing] !

[Party]

Kwea and I hope that you have a fabulous wedding day , and we know that you will look absolutely dazzling - so we want to see pictures afterwards so we (meaning I)can see the dress that you decide on!

Happy engagement! - JenniK

Almost forgot, a toast:

Every woman wants to be her husbands last love and every man wants to be his wife's first love; so here's to being each other's last, first love!

Mrs.M, I looked at your wedding photos (hope you don't mind), they were absolutely lovely. The dress was perfect and it looked like you were comfortable too! That is always a plus. Thank you for sharing the pics. If I can figure out how to put pics on here (refer to Belle's topic of "magical devices" posted long ago), I will add one of Kwea and I.

My dress was an A-line, very simple, with a little bit of beadwork going down the seams. It was the second one I tried on and I fell in love with it almost the second I saw it...then tried it on and came out of the dressing room saying "oh Mommy this is it! Isn't it beautiful?!!!" I was crying because it was exactly what I wanted. So, Hansenj, I wish for you the same luck and joy in finding your perfect dress. - JenniK

I want my mom to make my wedding dress (not that I'm getting married anytime soon). I drew a picture once, sleeveless, but with fairly wide straps, and a v neck, but so I can wear a normalish bra, princess seams, and a the back just long enough it barely drags the floor. White silk charmuse. My bridesmaids would wear similarly shaped dresses, but tea length and probably a lilac color.

I bought my dress 5 days before my wedding, for $100, had it altered to be higher in the back and be let out a half-size for $70, tacked a piece of eyelet lace into the front neckline (1/4 yard cost me about $3), and... ended up with the dress I'd wanted since I was a little girl. [Smile]

If you're getting married in L.A., I highly recommend dress shopping in the Garment District, especially the shop across the street from Central Market (that's where I got mine)-- and bring someone with you who knows how to haggle. (You can also get shoes, veils, etc. there for dirt cheap.) And I can highly recommend a shop that will do alterations on no notice for wedding/formal wear (that's all they do, in fact, they specialize in wedding and prom.)

Thanks for all the sweet wishes guys! [Big Grin]

Mrs. M-That really is close to what I want! You looked beautiful. [Smile]

JenniK-Thanks for the thoughtful toast! I'll definitely post pictures in May.

KQ- We haven't even started with the whole announcements/invitation thing yet. If it weren't for the new baby, it would be totally awesome if you guys (and any other So. Cal. Hatrackers) came to the reception (which is actually going to be in Anaheim on Saturday the 6th). [Smile] And, unfortunately, I don't live in California, and I won't be spending much time there before the wedding. I'm hoping to find my dress in Salt Lake when I go back to school.

Well, heck, I may come, new baby or no! That's what grandmas are for... Besides the dresses in Salt Lake (of which I'm sure there are a large number), you might look online, you often get better deals. [Smile]

I made beautiful invitations using my computer and printer and supplies from this site (although it had a different name then.) I printed the text part out, got a bunch of the girls from the ward together, one who is a teacher cut them using a papercutter, and the rest of us put them together like an assembly line. Then I addressed them myself (I do calligraphy.)

I don't know if you're paying for any part of this wedding yourself (we paid for ours all on our own), but I have tons of tips on doing a fun, beautiful wedding on the cheap. And if you need any footwork done in L.A. or research or anything, please e-mail me and ask, I'd be happy to. [Smile]

Heck, I'd even make your invitations for you. [Wink]
