My kitten (seven months old) has thrown up four times today. I found a chewed up, but not eaten, ibuprofen capsule (Advil liquigels...200 mg). I googled ibuprofen and cats and found all kinds of scary information about what could possibly happen.
I took a look at the symptoms and they include vomiting blood, bloody stool, lethargy, dizziness, loss of appetite, etc. He hasn't lost his appetite -- I took away the food because he kept eating it and throwing it up. There hasn't been any blood, just vomiting. He's a little bit lethargic but has been playing with his sister some today and hasn't exhibited signs of dizziness.
I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow, but unfortunately they're not open tonight. Have any of you had any experience with this? Do you think I should try to track down a 24-hour animal hospital and take him in tonight?
I'm worried sick...

you can't really take chances with an animal possibly eating human medicine -- if you can find one, i'd absolutely take him to an Emergency vet.

Yes, I would say it is safer to take him to the emergency clinic. How many times has he vomitted since? The dose probably is small enough. A toxic dose for cats is about 80 to 120 mg/kg for 10-12 days. You can also induce vomitting with hydrogen peroxide if this happened within the last 2 hours or so. Hope it that helps and is not confusing.

Sorry I disappeard off this last night. Your advice and some phone calls prompted me to take him in to the hospital last night around 12:30 am. They did bloodwork and gave him charcoal ( ) and kept him overnight, etc. He's going to come out okay, thank God, though there's a chance he'll have a stomach ulcer. He'll be on medication for the next ten days or so. But there was no kidney or liver damage, so that's good.
I'm just glad it wasn't Tylenol -- the vet told me if it had been that she would have been worried about him dying overnight!
I'm usually really good about keeping meds locked up; this one must have just been a stray that fell out of my purse or something. I think I'm going to throw all my Tylenol away!
On another note -- is anyone here familiar with pet insurance? Thankfully I could financially handle this disaster, but if something worse happens it might get dicey. Any recommendations?
