Does anyone have a list of every single wizard to have walked Toril or Krynn?

Posted by Theaca (Member # 8325) on :

Are you speaking English? [Wink]

Posted by David Bowles (Member # 1021) on :

Damn! You know, I did, but I *just* deleted that file. Sorry, bro.

You might want to check with Tom Davidson; he's got all that hep shite at his fingertips.

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

No, but I still have several old books. Ahh, good times.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Why would anyone have a list like that? What kind of human being would make a list like that? I mean, I doubt Ed Greenwood or Margaret Weis have a list like that, although I could imagine Ed Greenwood doing it if he had nothing else going on some Friday.

I'm the kind of human being who would make a list like that, if I had any idea what Toril or Krynn were.

Seriously, I find myself making weird lists just to see if I can. I keep thinking it'll help me see how things fit together, but really it's just a Monk-ish part of my personality.

Krynn is the world/land that the Dragonlance chronicles is set in.

I'm not sure what Toril is.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

*grin* I posted before I saw David's shout-out. And, yes, I'm probably the person on this site most likely to have such a list, assuming for a moment that I'm the kind of person who'd consider making such a list. [Smile]

Posted by Eaquae Legit (Member # 3063) on :

Toril is, I think, the world the Forgotten Realms books are set in.

So far the prize goes to David Bowles for his first response <snicker>. IMHO

I know Gryylth, but not Krynn.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

What's really sad is multiple people have made this sort of list for Harry Potter.

Posted by JennaDean (Member # 8816) on :

I LOVE the Harry Potter Lexicon. [Smile] That's my kind of list.

Posted by breyerchic04 (Member # 6423) on :

Oh I do too, and I think I've read large portions of it. But wow I wouldn't want to come up with the research for it.

Posted by Dr Strangelove (Member # 8331) on :

I have some Rhode Island/Ukranian friends ... don't ask ... and they are very fond of saying something which I think I will interject here: What's the point? Not to degrade spontaneous list making at all. I am sincerly asking. :-)

I'm gonna have to give it up to Blayne for his Internet cojones. If I ever wanted to know the answer to a question like that, I'd be far too worried about mockery ever to ask it myself.

(This may sound like a slam, BB, but I promise it isn't.)

Toril is the Forgotten Realms world/universe. The main continent/world is Faerun.

And making a list of every wizard to ever walk Toril would be IMPOSSIBLE. No really IMPOSSIBLE. It'd be like making a list of every human being to walk the Earth.. ever. You couldn't do it.

And the "Too Much Time On Their Hands" Award goes to...

Posted by Blayne Bradley (Member # 8565) on :

I just got my free trial for World of Warcraft and I'm trying to make a wizard, I went through, Fizban, Fistanditilus, Raistlin, and finally I settled on Geurrand, the main character in the "Defender's of Magic" Trilogy.

I tried to make a rogue gname named Tasslehoff but that didn't work.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

You could always, y'know, make up your OWN name. [Smile]

Posted by Blayne Bradley (Member # 8565) on :

never!

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

I think Blayne is a great Wizards name. Blayne the Blameless? Blayne the Bland? Blayne of the House Of the Evil Rocket Propelled Grenade?

Posted by Blayne Bradley (Member # 8565) on :

Blayne is more of a Pali name. Since in old english it means "True Knight" or somethin.

Why such a limited number of places to steal from? I like that wizard from the Thieves' World, Something the Incomp-comp-comparable! (He had a stutter.)

Blaine is a pain, and that's the truth.

Choo-choo.

The one with the bag named Ca-ca-carrier, KoM?

Crap, now I am going to agonize over his name until I remember.

....... YOU MISPELLED MY NAME! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE? THINK POKEMON GYM TEACHER! BUT WITH A "Y"!!!! NOT AN "I"!!! Got that people? B-L-A-Y-N-E!!!!!! BLAYNE!!!!.

I'm sorry but I just get really upset when people not only misspell my name but cause flashbacks to elementary school "Blanica" *shivers*.

[sef edited to remove vulgarity sorry people.]

Wow BlaYne that was unexpected, maybe you could've posted that in a less explosive way. No one that I know means to mispell names on purpose as an adult. (I have a double whammy that everyone mispells and consequently know what I'm talking about)

Edit: thanks for the edit Blayne

Posted by Rakeesh (Member # 2001) on :

Just a thought, but if you want people not to mock your name, doing things like naming yourself after a Pokemon gym teacher are probably not the best way to go...

just sayin'.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Blayne, no names were misspelled. The name given was spelled correctly -- and was not your own. [Smile]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Blayne, you're getting upset with someone for misspelling something? Thats an...interesting position for you to be taking.

Log in to any MMORPG. do a /who. You'll get the name not only of every wizard in Faerun but every god, every major and minor character, and about 500 Drizzts.

I find the brief glimpse into your psyche here...disturbing.

Did you try "Fistandantalus" (ending in "alus" rather than "ilus")? I think I've seen it spelled that way in a few official (though very old) books.

My birth name is Blayne Gordon Elison Bradley, born June 9th 1987, currently live in Quebec.

I did not "name" myself else I would be a extremly precoucious infant.

And know they're wouldn't be 500 drizzt's, they'ld be 500 variations of Drizzt but not 500 clones.

MrSquicky...

In the Infocom text adventure Ballyhoo, there was a hypnotist named Rimshaw the Incomparable (it was a mystery game set at a circus), and if you typed >EXAMINE RIMSHAW you got "You see nothing unusual about Rimshaw the Incomparable (contrary to his title)." See, if you tried to examine an object for which the game had no specific description, you got "You see nothing unusual about [the object]."

Dude, you really need to lay off the coffee.

That was a quote from Jack Chamber's term paper about truth in Stephen King's The Drawing of the Three, the third book in the Dark Tower series.

When I need a name for an RPG character in a hurry, I take an appropriate name from the NES RPG Dragon Warrior IV. When I recently replayed Final Fantasy (in its Game Boy Advance version) I named my fighter Ragnar, my thief Cristo (not a great fit), and my white and black mages Nara and Mara, respectively.

(When I played Final Fantasy for the first time on the NES years ago---and remember that the names could be only four characters long---I used the inimitable names of Noah for my fighter, Bart for my black belt, Jose for my white mage, and Glen for my black mage. I think I got them from an NES baseball game with the same restriction on names.)

Boy am I bored today.

When I need a name for an RPG character, I either make one up or google for a list of names that come from whatever culture most closely represents that of the PC I have in mind. I then pick one, change it around a bit, and hey! presto, I have a character name.

Posted by Rakeesh (Member # 2001) on :

My first RPG character, both MMORPG and otherwise, was named Iarwain-I just loved the sound of it, even though picking it was arbitrary beyond that. Tolkien-derived, most of you will recognize.

Since then, though, I've gotten more creative. I either make it up, or if there's a cultural background for it, I do like Noemon.

Posted by Omega M. (Member # 7924) on :

Well, for a real pencil and paper RPG played face-to-face with other people I'd pick a more fitting name. I'm not sure the original Final Fantasy was that great with names.
