So I got up this morning and it was COLD! Weatherbug said it was 15 whole degrees outside, but it was the kind of cold you can feel scratching at the drafty windows in an old house like mine hoping to feast on the warm bodies inside. Since my Mom has basically given Chris her truck to drive to work, we don't drive out in the morning together anymore. This let's me go in early and work out in the company gym before work. On my way out, all bundled up, Chris gives me puppy-dog eyes and says "Warm up the truck?" (What could I say to that?)

So I start up the truck and then get into my car and promptly curse myself for not having filled up the tank on my way home from work yesterday. I really didn't want to stand at a cold gas pump, but even more I didn't want to run out of gas so I stopped to fill up. The guy at the pump next to me was filling his truck and bouncing up and down to keep warm. He smiled "good morning" and made some jovially grouchy comments about the gas prices today (up 10 cents from last night). Joining in the spirit of the conversation, I agreed, and added that prices were progressively higher all the way on my drive to work. But more than the price change, I wished I had filled up last night because this morning it was just too damn cold. Still bouncing up and down, he gave me a sly grin and said "I work outside".

Man! I sure feel for all the people that have to work outside today.

Gee, I'm sorry. It's, like, 50 or something here, and I'm freezing. (Yes, I'm a wuss when it comes to cold.) Besides that, gas is down more and more every day here (luckily for our budget.)

Did you check prices this morning? Our prices have been lower and lower for a couple of weeks but this morning was a BIG jump. The radio said national average jumped to $2.12/gal. for regular unleaded. (Mine was $2.15 at the "cheap station" - $2.03/gal last night. [Grumble]

Um, since it's 4:43 here, no, I haven't. But three days ago, it was $2.27 at the one near us, the day before yesterday, $2.25, and yesterday, $2.22. So no jump so far.

(We often don't jump with the Eastern half of the country out here, though we do have our own jumps now and again.)

Wow.

Hey KarlEd - When I moved from Wyo. to upstate NY, I remember poo-pooing everyone's comments about how cooooollllllld it got there. I moved with my folks in '85, which was one of their worst winters in a long time. Te humidity coupled with the lake effect storms was truly awful. 30 degrees felt colder to me than -10 in dry Wyo.

Last week, gas was $1.89 at Murphy Oil (Wal-Mart). Last night it was $2.07.

I still stand by a statement I made to a co-worker: I prefer loads of snow to bitter cold. I'm a careful driver, so I'm not worried about driving in it, but the cold is just too much - even my car doesn't act right now.

Here, gas is the equivalent of US$2.94/gal this morning, up from the equivalent of US$2.73/gal last night.

I have no idea what gas is like here - I don't drive a lot so I fill up maybe once every three weeks, however I do like the Texas reaction to cold. I got an email yesterday from the University saying that, due to inclement weather, they were closing at 2pm. So I look outside. No inclement weather that I can see, so I check the weather reports. 31 degrees and a chance of drizzle. [Dont Know]

This amuses me greatly.

Yeah, I'm at the very tip of Texas, and it's 38 degrees outside. No one has the slightest idea how to behave or what to do. When 90% of your days are 75 degrees or above during a year, you don't learn that sort of stuff.

I grew up in Idaho, so I'm a careful and experienced driver in the snow too. I always keep 10+ seconds behind the guy in front of me (since apparently they're not too big on plowing or the roads here in Northwestern Nevada). It's the fool in the Ford F-350 with the lift, monster truck tires, NRA logo, sticker that says "Keep honking I'm reloading," and California plates barreling up behind me on icy roads at double my speed that about made me soil my shorts on the way to work this morning.

eh hem ... I work outside sometimes, like this past monday. I absolutely love this time of year for working outside. Then again it was a sunny 70 degree's [Taunt]

I worked at a gas station for a week back in 2003, January of. It was cold to the point of crystalization, and people would ask me about the gas prices when all I could think of was getting back inside where it was warm and how I was NOT OPEC.

Didn't I just mention that I find 50 degrees too cold? I don't want to go where there's snow! I'm upset about even having to go to Dallas, where it's 30!
