Man, that would be great. Maybe, being a Direct to TV thing, it would pave the way for the return of the actual TV show itself?

That's awesome.
I hope they go with a mini series instead of a sequel film. Joss needs more air time to tell his wonderful stories.

I would prefer a mini-series as well. But I'll take anything we can get!
And Noemon, FROM YOUR MIND TO THE POWERS THAT BE!!! A return of the show would be SWEET.

I wonder why they would do that.
As far as I can tell, Serenity barely broke even in the theaters.

I noticed that the article says that Whedon (or his people or something like that) denied the rumor.

Because they have extensive data from the Serenity release letting them make a good guess at how many of the people who saw the theater movie would see a much lower budget tv movie (even if little was spent on advertising), ran the numbers, and figured they could make millions of dollars?

My guess is they will wait to see how it does on DVD. The TV show did very well on DVD, if the movie does the same, breaking even in theaters would be enough...since they could make a killing on DVD sales.

Someone on Whedonesque suggested that the article was an attempt to "float a balloon". Which honestly wouldn't surprise me. This is why I put in bold that this is just a rumor. At this point I don't think there's any real stock to it. But if it gets people excited, the Powers That Be might take notice and might actually start considering it.

Honestly I think this is our best chance at getting anything new. A mini-series would be Boss, and Sci Fi is known for their mini-series-es. So* that's a possibility. But a made for sci fi movie is cheaper and more likely.

I hope they do it, and I hope Fox makes a deal with Apple to have it in the iTunes Movie Store, which a Fox executive has recently said they're amenable to talking about (having their stuff in the iTMS, that is).

I would probably break down and get SciFi if they played a serenity sequal series. If the iTMS had it, that would even be better.

How has the Firefly series done on SciFi? If its done well there, it'd certainly be more than possible for them to make a mini-series at some point...

I dunno if I could even watch it without certain people it it.
Ni!

When does Serenity come out on DVD? They didn't have it in my town, so I want to rent it. And then maybe buy it. And maybe buy Firefly too.
Maybe I can help with this cause. Bring about the dawning of a new age. Or the dawning of a new mini-series or straight-to-tv movie. Both work.

A co-worker told me the other day, "I watched this little show called 'Firefly.' And I liked it."
I was thrilled for him - a new convert to the cause. He saw the first episode on SciFi. I suggested he rent the videos so he can watch it faster.
