For those of the less informed, I work for Comcast, and get free cable. Free, all five beautiful movie stations (and international channels), cable.

Because of this, I hardly ever watch TV channels. Usually, I come home, watch a movie or two On Demand. Because of this, I thought I would start this quick little thread about what I watched that night.

Tonight, I watched a movie called Elephant (2003), which was directed Gus Van Sant, director of Finding Forrester, Psycho, and Good Will Hunting.

Brief synopsis:
It takes you through a normal school day, through the eyes of a couple of different teens at school. You have the preppie girls, the photography guy, the not so athletic girl, the couple, the outcast. Later in the day, 2 kids gun down other kids in the school.

This is a very real feeling movie. It reminded me very much of high school, with the exception of what the outcast went through. Just the long walks in the high school, in particular, the quietness. It was creepy. From a cinematic view point, it was very well presented, very real feeling. From a overall movie perspective, it's not a must have, or a must see. However, if you ever want to see (and I say this with no experience) realistic school violence movie, then check this out.

A nice little note about this, is that all the kids in the movie went by their real name. They aren't so much actors, and just real people.

You can catch this movie on HBO On Demand until October 30th.

Boooooring.

I can't forgive a movie that made me watch a kid walk across a grass field for over five minutes. With no cuts and no dialogue. Just walking.

I saw the trailers for Elephant but it never piqued my interest enough for me to watch it.

(Sidenote: I was watching 'Good Will Hunting' yesterday (must have been that kind of day) and the classroom at the beginning is the room my Linguistics 203 was in at the beginning of the year. MP (McLennen Physical Labs) room 203. Only it was all shiny and lacking the broken chairs and the scuffed walls and blackboard. It made me happy.)

It was a bit boring, which is why I didn't rank it as a must see, must have. But then again, high school was just as boring for me, even if the halls were more crowded.

I've heard a lot about that movie, though when it came to the school theater I was not in the mood for it.
