That's all I wanted to say. I'm bored and just want to hang out a little and you all are sleepyheads!
Who says you can't survive on 5 hours of sleep a night?
[Big Grin]

Posted by pfresh85 (Member # 8085) on :

I'm still up, but only for a little while longer. I try and get 7 hours of sleep at least. If you get less than 7 (or more than like 9), it's not healthy for you (particularly for your heart).

Ha! I go to sleep at 2:30AM everyday just because I feel like it! I get my good 8 hrs of sleep too!

I hate people who don't have to get up (relatively) early. I normally have to get up around 6:30-6:45 in order to get to school on time. I wish the whole schedule could be shifted forward about 3 hours, but they can't do that because of sports practices.

Stupid sports. [Grumble]

Posted by Treason (Member # 7587) on :

I agree that sports are stoopid. [Big Grin]

Did you all ever hear about that guy who went like, 1 year without sleep? (I think it was something like that, maybe more)
I think I'll go google it and see if I can't find ya a story.

Woah! Nevermind it was 20!!
Here-(who knows if it's real)

KOSZER (WSAP) - According to his physicians, 63 years old Nestor Fedorczuk from the Volhynian village Koszer (near Kowel) is as healthy as a man of his age can possibly be. Nevertheless, he has not slept for more than two decades and is far from happy about it.

He cannot remember the exact year, but the last time Nestor ever slept was sometime at the beginning of the 1980s. It was nothing but a short nap. Since that moment, he has never been able to doze off for longer than a few seconds. "I used to read the minutes of boring Sejm meetings in the hope they would help me fall asleep", Nestor explains. "But as soon as I felt my eyes getting droopy and put the paper aside, I would find myself wide awake again."

Scientists have not yet been able to find a satisfactory explanation for the phenomenon. All therapies and treatments that were meant to put Fedorczuk to sleep have failed. According to his personal doctor, Mordechaj Koszel, he feels good, has no pain whatsoever, is not overly exhausted, and is definitely not sick: "Medically speaking, Nestor is a perfectly healthy man. He is just unable to fall asleep, that's all." Fedorczuk's insomnia may have been caused by earlier diseases, but it is impossible to find out which.

"This has been going on for over twenty years now and I've simply gotten used to it", the insurance broker says. "Now, when everyone else sleeps, I get stuck into a good book. But I have read my entire library already three times now, and I am getting tired of it."

Not sleeping. Working on project on Gwendolyn Brooks that I have put off until the night before.

*groan* I mean morning before!

In high school, I was always up at 5:15. That sucked, very much. It meant I tried to get to bed by 11 or 11:30, although there were some days where I was so stressed I got no sleep. High school definitely wasn't healthy for me. College has been better. I can go to bed at 1 or 1:30 and still pull in a good 7 hours of sleep. It's good stuff.

Posted by CaySedai (Member # 6459) on :

I stay up too late - and make up for it by taking a 2-3 hour nap after my kids go to school. I didn't get my nap today (Monday - since I'm still up, it's still Monday to me).

I will definitely be taking a nap tomorrow (technically today - see previous paragraph).

Am I incoherent enough? I could stay up later if necessary. [Wink]

*peeks in around corner*

(Oh, good, she's laughing.)

*walks back in with slightly sheepish grin*

Why, what are the problems with the ones you're finding?

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

That they're really expensive.

We saw some the other day that were $270 and up. But then the same store had saris for $180 and up. In a country where saris usually cost $50 for really really nice ones.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well.

Why don't you shop somewhere less expensive?

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

*laughs* Yeah, probably. We'll have to see what we can find. It's just that he'd look so hot in a kurta, and a western suit would just . . . not. (I'm already starting to drool. How sad! [Big Grin] )

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yeah. I love men in kilts, and I wish my husband had the knees for one.

Alas, he does not. But at least he looks like a totally hot model in a nice suit (of which my father bought him three for his last birthday.)

Fahim has the legs for a kilt. Oh my! But he'd still look silly in one. [Big Grin] But oh yeah, he's got great legs. And tushy. [Kiss]

I'm up, mostly because I'm hoping my ankle will stop hurting before I go to bed. Wish I knew what the blue blazes I did to make it so mad at me...

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

You didn't give it chocolates. [ROFL]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I figure if you've got the legs for one, you've got the legs for the other. It's just the coloring that matters which one you wear.

Sterling, take some Advil, put your ankle up, and ice it.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

But he's so brown, kq, and with his long bushy beard and his long curly hair (which is now only down to his shoulders - had to cut it for his parents), he looks more like a fundamental Islamic terrorist, and that's what would make him look silly in a kilt. But a kurta - yowsa! Move over, Saif Ali Khan and Shahrukh Khan!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

That's what I said. Jeff would look silly in a kurta. Fahim would look silly in a kilt. But get the right coloring going with the right article of clothing, and there you are.

Except for Jeff's legs. Alas.

Posted by Sterling (Member # 8096) on :

Took some advil. I'm familiar with the RICE treatment for such things (rest-ice-compression-elevation), but I don't see any handy way to perform said treatment where I normally sleep, unfortunately. I may at least be able to ice it. Wouldn't my wife be surprised to find my feet were colder than hers in the morning!

Thanks, ketchupqueen.

How do I feed my ankle chocolates, quid? Or do I just offer them, on the premise that it's the thought that counts? [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Chocolates are like advil. You take them orally. [Big Grin]

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

Oh! But a kurta doesn't show off legs. He'd still wear pants beneath it, so there's no benefit of good looking legs. That's why I misunderstood.

On the other hand, I still get to enjoy his legs the rest of the time. Especially when he wears his sarong. [Big Grin]

Sterling, silly boy, you sacrifice them to the gods of sore ankles into the sacrificial altar of your tongue. Enjoy on the way down!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I know, quid. But you have to have the legs anyway. Trust me on this one. It's a body shape thing. [Big Grin]

He wears a sarong? Awesome!

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Ooh! I just thought of something!

Ice cream.

That is all.

Posted by quidscribis (Member # 5124) on :

You didn't know? Yeah, that's what he wears to bed and he doesn't change into real clothes until midmorning. And I buy him his sarongs. [Big Grin] Yep, he's got great legs. *drools*

Ah, I've been here a few months now. I go through cycles: I lurk some, then post a whole lot, then go back to lurking. It works. As for the comment about your son, yeah kids are great. One of the reasons I started my parody thread (Women. How do I deal with them?) is that I want to meet a girl, get married, and start having a family in the near future (say within 5 years). I think family is great.

edit spelling AGAIN... OK maybe I need to get to bed now

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I don't know exactly when I'm due yet. They gave me a date but I think it's wrong; I went back and looked at the calendar and I had one day of spotting the next month. Sometimes that's all I get anyway (I'm very irregular) and I was under the stress of a cross-country move. So I think I'm due sometime around the middle of May. But I need to get that confirmed. We're having trouble finding all the documents we need to qualify for Medi-Cal (the move again); I need to look in two more boxes, then call and see if they'll accept alternate, non-state-issued documentation and a notarized affadavit, because duplicates are going to take up to two months to get and I can't wait that long.

wow... I'm going to be in California at the end of the week. My son is SO looking forward to Knottsberry. I haven't told him I;m also taking him to dinner at Medieval Times

Posted by mimsies (Member # 7418) on :

but it's only a visit, we won't be trying to get insurance...

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Knott's? It's okay. I like Disneyland much better, though. [Smile] But the food is better at Knott's! And it's cheaper, which is worth something. Medieval Times is highly overrated-- and historically inaccurate-- and overpriced-- but little kids love it anyway. [Big Grin] You'll have fun watching him have fun; don't expect to have as much yourself, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway. [Wink]

Next time you're out here, I know a whole bunch of cheaper things that are a lot of fun and more educational, too-- like Olviera Street, the San Fernando mission if you're into history (it's not the best of the missions to visit-- that would be La Purisima, we did them all one summer-- but it's the closest), and the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage, not to mention all kinds of others. King Tut is at LACMA right now, but it's a nightmare waiting in line, and you've got your weekend planned anyway. Anyway, next time you're out, we'd love to meet you and get together!

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I LOVE Medieval Times. I went to the one in Toronto.

Our knight lost [Frown] But it was still great.

I think everyone likes it because they get to call their server "Wench" all night long.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

The food grosses me out, mostly. And even as a kid I noticed the historical inaccuracies, and quizzed my server about it (I was 10 at the time, the poor thing! *facepalm*) I did enjoy it, but when I went back at 15, I decided not to go again. Twice was enough.

Posted by mimsies (Member # 7418) on :

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Yes the food was awful. And the disco ball that was used as Merlin's magic ball was laughable. But I still enjoyed it for what it was.

Does it really claim to be historically accurate?

*peeks in the up-late thread*

I still love Medieval Times! I think I've been 3 times, most recently just a few years ago. Yes, silly, yes, historically inaccurate, but they have gorgeous horses! The 5 minutes of dressage is my favorite part - it's the closest I've been able to get so far to the Spanish Riding School.

Sporadic comment over. I'm going to bed now. [Wave]

My wife was speculating that my ankle might be gout, since there was no obvious moment of injury like a twisted ankle to attach to the pain. I'm hoping like heck she's wrong. I don't want a condition that could come back like that without my doing anything to provoke it, and I don't want to be the SECOND one of my group of friends to develop gout in their late twenties.

At any rate, my ankle's getting better; here's to no recurrence. Maybe it was just moving boxes up and down three flights of stairs for two hours.
