Has anyone else on Hatrack read this book?

It's the first book of "M.T. Anderson's Thrilling Tales".

It's also a laugh-out-loud funny parody of the open-ended juvenile series of the past.

Lily Gefelty is the ordinary best friend of Katie Mulligan and Jasper Dash. Katie lives in an R.L. Stine-esque neighborhood named "Horror Hollow", and has to deal with liver-eating scarecrows, Civil War soldiers, singing bats, psychokillers, serpents, mind-controlling sloths, etc...all in the same week.

Jasper Dash, Boy Technonaut is very similar to one Tom Swift. Not the Tom Swift Jr. of the 50s-70s, or the great grandson Tom Swifts of the 80s and 90s. Nope...he's like the original Tom Swift, even though he lives in the modern day.

Lily will need the help of both her friends, because nobody else believes her when she finds out her dad works for a Human-Whale hybrid intent on taking over the world.

Lily's Dad: "Honey, sometimes adults use irony. They don't really mean what they say."

Lily: "He poured all that...brine all over his head!"

This is a very silly book. But very fun. And it makes some rather biting points in places. [Smile]
