I think the Brothers Grimm opens today, and as it is a work by Terry Gilliam, I will be interested in seeing it. Anyone else headed to the movies today? What are you going to see? Odds on the decency of the Brothers Grimm? What have you seen recently that you liked?

Matt Damon looks weird with those dark circles under his eyes! I got alot more interested after I figured out that Heath Ledger was not Ben Affleck. I don't have anything against Ben, I just didn't want to see a mideval dream oriented Good Monster Hunting or something.

I'm always interested in Terry Gilliam...

I'll be seeing this one, but, as above, probably not this weekend

I saw it and thought it was pretty good, though not what I was expecting. It was much darker, stranger, and scarier than what I got from the previews. Overall I'd recommend it though.

I have to say Heath Ledger looked pretty good in the movie. [Wink]

I heard there's a nightmare inducing scene involving a horse's mouth and spiders. I'll see it soon.

Yup. That part made me want to hide. And I was just about to go to sleep too and now I have all the bad images in my head, dammit!

Sleep tight. Don't let the spider-spewing horses bite.

*smacks forehead*

I had no idea Terry Gilliam directed this.

Why do people like Terry Gilliam? I'm not familiar with anything else that he's done.

Monty Python's Flying Circus, 12 Monkeys, Brazil, Time Bandits, etc.

His credentials.

Mainly he's loved for his bluntness, hate of Hollywood, perpetual underdogism, and his ability to turn anything into pure magic.

I saw it last night--not the best movie you'll see all year, but a good way to spend two hours. Enjoyably creepy, complete with things to make you jump. Moments of supreme weirdness, like that bit with the horse, and a few great lines. Stylistically, there were scenes when I thought, yeah, this *so* came directly from the head of the Python animator.

For the pro-/anti-Heath Ledger camps, I'll tell you he didn't seem like himself, in the sense that he seemed different from any other character I've seen him play, even unrecognizable at times. Change in voice, posture, style of movement... I guess it's called acting!

I just saw it last night too.... I'd have to give it thumbs down. I'd describe it as a big, confusing jumble of fairy tales flung at you as quickly as possible. It didn't seem to have any point other than that.

Do you understand where the gingerbread man came from? I don't know if it's a Grimm tale or not.
