ricree, that's because you've already got a NYT cookie on your drive. Sharing the login/password won't really hurt anything.
In the interest of promoting trust and harmony, I suggest that we all share our login/password combinations.

One of Terry Bisson's stories (The Two Janets) starts with the line: "I'm not one of those people who thinks you have to read a book to get something out of it." I LOVE that line.

I didn't need the login/password, and considering that this computer only went online in the past week, I'm pretty sure I don't have a NYT cookie on my drive. How can this be?

When you don't want to create an account, you can also visit bugmenot.com. Thanks to whoever shared that with me (was it Farmgirl?)
