quote:
CHICAGO - The Cook County Republican Party is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an indictment and conviction of Mayor Richard M. Daley, whose administration has been buffeted by scandal.
I think this is a brilliant plan. The dems should institute the same thing for W, upping the reward a bit, of course.

ONLY 30K for trashing Meigs????? Did they make him responsible for the destruction of the plane that tried to land at something like 5 am that day before the notice finally went out to OHare Tower? Oh, and if he did that in direct opposition to the city council's ruling, he ought to be personally responsible for all of that... at least in my opinion. That's what he gets for cutting deals for the OHare expansion (that still hasn't happened)

My brother and I were discussing this over dinner a couple nights ago. Mom of course thinks that Daley was within his rights to do whatever he wanted (and no we don't live within city limits so I'm not sure why she's defending him so vehemently), the rest of us were rather opposed to her stance and ignorance of the situation...

And I would love to see someone finally break the family legacy. Let's get some fresh blood in that office and see what Chicago can really do!

I think this is wrong.

I was hoping for a bounty on Tom DeLay

Big city mayors are notorious for this sort of thing. For some reason, the power just goes to their heads. NYC was a hoot to live in during the Koch administration, for example, and he was actually one of the better mayors we'd had.

But for sheer down home crunchy backroom politics, you just can't beat the Daley family.

Think how bad it'll be if you end up with a boringly competent mayor.

Would it even work?

Maybe you'd have the entire city bulldozed in the middle of the night.

Come to Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick would be a hoot if he weren't such a horrible mayor. Never thought I'd yearn for the days of Dennis Archer.

This is stupid. I don't care how corrupt someone is, offering money to catch them out is a stupid, money-driven tactic guaranteed to cause more trouble than it could ever solve.

You know, DC's Tony Williams never gets himself in these messes.
