I'm looking for a magazine to subscribe to for my children. It would have articles on mapreading, camping skills, fun outdoor stuff kids do, amateur radio, locating and using wild food sources, reviews of equipment geared for children for these purposes, etc.
Anyone seen anything like this? Even just in an online version? If not, I'm just going to have to put one together myself.

The closest I can think of would be "Boys Life" or "Ranger Rick".

Storm Saxon, "Boys' Life" is the Cub Scout magazine. Okay, I guess Boy Scout, too, but I've never known a boy who was at that reading level by the time he hit Boy Scouts.

National Geographic Kids Magazine is more focused on things other than just animals, but isn't as "outdoors" as what I think you want.
Children's Digest might be something like what you're looking for, but I'm not sure, and it's more an all-around kind of mag.
I always read my brother's Boys' Life when I was growing up, but a lot of it is really oriented toward scouting, and there's not always a lot of camping/outdoors stuff in every issue. And apparently now it's got even more advertising in it than when I was a kid.

I haven't read Boys' Life for several years, but if it is anything like it was when I was a Scout, I think it would fit your needs to a tee.
Although it is a Scouting publication, it is not as Scout-specific or as boy-specific as you might think. The articles you probably want are there, and you can just skip the parts that aren't pertinent to your situation. And the age level is about right.

Boys' Life would be good, if it weren't for the sheer number of scouting references and the $21.60 price tag. Maybe it's $12 a year for scouts.
The NWF magazines are nice, but not really what I'm looking for. They're not likely to find a giant squid in the pond, and even if they did, the NWF is not likely to teach them how to cook and eat it.
The other two KQ linked to aren't what I'm looking for either.
So far, the Boys' Life magazine is closest, but still not what I need. I appreciate the help, though.
My ISP says I need to create a website before I can upload it to my personal webspace. Guess I'll have to start working on content...

Hmm...When I was a kid I was force-fed Mad magazine...which explains a lot, but if your looking for age appropriate materials go for Ranger Rick, Highlights or Zoobooks.

You should start your own magazine company! Compete with Boy's Life if you can. I don't know how well that would work out, but it might be worth a shot.
Or, you could just give in and buy Boy's Life. I actually think it's really good, even if your kids aren't in Scouts. They don't try to convert you or anything, they just talk about some of the stuff they do, like their national jamborees, or special campouts that some troops do, stuff like that. Really, it isn't like it's made just for the Scouts. I mean, it's called Boy's Life, not Scout's Life. Anyway, that's just my .02
