I've noticed something. Puffy Treat seems to know a lot about up coming movies. I've decided that I should appoint him/her the Movie Guru.

To Puffy- You now have the responsibilty of letting people know about important movies and gloat about how you should know. I'd present you with a badge, but I can't. So this smilie will have to do. [Cool] It means that your cool. [Razz]

I'd challenge PT to an upcoming movie duel if I knew how it would work.

My best friend Kara and I know about pretty much every movie coming out within the next year, we research it before the year starts so we can plan out our movie viewing for the year [Smile]

I see a good 50 or 60 movies a year in theater, though probably more this year since Kara started working at a theater.

DID she ...

**cackles ominously for absolutely no reason**

That was more creepy than ominous.

I might be able to come up with rules for a movie duel.

In that case the challenge is officially extended.

PT hasn't noticed this yet, but I'll try and come up with something.

"The Trash Heap has spoken! NYAH!"

Sweet, maybe I'll win by default.

Speaking of up coming movies, has anyone seen the trailer for "Open Season" ??? It was released in some cities before Madagascar.

It's another animated film, this time by Columbia and Sony Animation.

It looks hilarious. It's about animals in a forest fighting hunters and other "outdoorsmen."

It features at the very least, a hysterical group of scottish squirrels, and a bear and deer voiced by Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher. Check apple trailers for the clip. Pay special attention to the beaver with the chain saw, he cracks me up.

Ok, movie duel. The rules:

1) The only search engine you can use is Google.

2) You must provide a link that backs up your answers.

3) Have fun, and try your hardest.

The challenge:

I'll provide questions that can be answered with a list, the person with the most correct answers will win the round. We will have as many rounds that are needed to declare a clear winner. I'll give you the first question after both players have declared that they are ready.

Hmmm, wouldn't this contest be more fair without the use of Google? Maybe with an answer key already having been created by the quiz master?

How do you police that?

Honor system?

Posted by TL (Member # 8124) on :

Well, I don't think the honorable Puffy Treat or the venerable Lyrhawn would stoop to CHEATING.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

If I can't win by playing fair, I don't want to win at all.

Posted by El JT de Spang (Member # 7742) on :

That's what all cheaters say.

Posted by El JT de Spang (Member # 7742) on :

just joking, not trying to impugn anyone's honor.

is this movie duel only on yet to be released movies? Is it basically a general upcomming movie knowledge duel?

cause I may want in on this.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I'm feeling a little impugned. [Wink]

I figured yes, it'd be a challenge about upcoming yet to be released movies.

Though I think this should be a non google, basically non internet challenge. Either it's a test of our knowledge on upcoming movies, or on our ability to find information on upcoming movies, which is far easier and more broad.

Well, I was going to make the questions really obscure, so you would need a search engine. The one who can research best and fastest and has a general idea on the answers to the question would shine through. But whatever.

Has PT not noticed this yet?

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

Sorry. Missed this.

Ask away.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Well, you both need to agree on rules. Lyrhawn doesn't want to use Google, despite the obscurity of my questions. Do you care?

Posted by Puffy Treat (Member # 7210) on :

I have no preferences on that matter.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

If you think it is really going to be that hard then I'll let you pick, you're the moderator (of sorts). But at this point I too have no real preference.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Ok, well since we seem to have made a bit of an agreement we'll start.

1) List, as many as possible, movies based on books that are directed by someone from Asia.

Rules ( to reiterate):

1) The only search engine you can use is Google.

2) You must provide a link that backs up your answers.

3) Have fun, and try your hardest.

Do you count Russian directors as part of Asia? Or for this does Russia count as eastern European?

Edit to add: I assume that Indian directors will count, just wanted to double check.
