For those of you who have read the materials in the extended SW universe, do you know what episodes VII, VII, and IX will be about?

I know some people believe these sequels will never get made. But can George Lucas easily walk away from such a profitable franchise? If Police Academy has 4 sequels, Star Wars deserve at least 12-15. [Wink]

Even if you do not believe we will ever see more sequels, what would you like to see in those movies?

Posted by KarlEd (Member # 571) on :

I have no idea what those episodes will be about, but I have no doubt that they will be made. Star Wars has become such a pervasive and iconic part of our culture and the franchise is such a box-office juggernaut despite the fact that half the episodes so far are pretty bad on so many levels that someone will make those episodes even if Lucas has to die first.

In fact, I fully expect the whole existing series to be re-made sometime in the next 50 to 75 years. And since the story is known, I wouldn't be surprised if they were re-made in chronological sequence.

In the sequals:

Leia leaves Han Solo for Chewbacca.
In spite, Han Solo marries Luke.
C3PO and R2D2 finally tie the knot.
The universe explodes, killing everyone.

Ichi wama, Solo. Jabba no bantha, smelly cat.

Translation: Too bad, Solo. Jabba will make you wish you were the smelly cat.

Tell Dags we only charge $2 at Java the Hut. We don't accept Republic Credits though.

I really liked Zahn's treatment of that period, and I am not that huge of a fan of his, to be honest.

It felt like it fit very well.

Thrawn would eat Vader alive..... [Big Grin]

If they want to do anything involving the Jedi Academy, they'd better hurry up. Hammil isn't getting any younger.

Java the Hut!!! I LOVE IT! You should check the trademark on that and steal it for yourself. [Big Grin]

Kwea, you and I are thinking the same thoughts. I survived these past years with the belief (thanks to all of the rumors) that Lucas will adapt the Zahn books into film.

He won't play Luke, he is already too old.

As far as the new movie....wow, did Obi-Wan age in those lost 18 years, huh? [Big Grin]

Yet another detail he forgot about....

As a real answer to the question:
<possible spoilers>
.

.
From the rumors I've heard and read from the "star wars universe" books, Han and Leia (obviously) get married and have kids, i don't know if luke has kids, being against the ways o' the jedi and all, and luke starts the jedi temple back up. I don't know for sure that this is what happens, but it's what i've heard.

Han and Leia get married and have Jaina and Jacen, twins, and Anakin. Spoiler? Luke later marries Mara Jade from the Thrawn trilogy and has a son, Ben Skywalker.

I'd love to see the Thrawn trilogy made into the next movie trilogy. It's the only viable piece of EU that can be made into movies.

But if movies are off the table, I want to see the X-Wing series turned into a TV show or miniseries or maybe a movie with effects done by ILM. That series is almost exclusively about space battles, and that's what ILM and Lucasfilm does best. It'd be visually stunning, and many of the characters from that series are very interesting. Most notably Corran Horn, which I think opens the way for an, I, Jedi film.

Edit to change a serious typo.

Some plot summaries I found. There maybe some spoilers here (or it could be just speculation, I dunno):

Ep 7: The Fallen Hero

Ep 8: The Republic in Crisis

Ep 9: Victory of the Force

I meant Han and Leia, I changed it.

I like the Lando Lakes.

Would you be serving food there? Maybe some Boba Fettuccine? Greedo-Lay Vader tots?

The Boba Fettuccine will go well with our general line of Boba drinks.

First of all, Leia and Han have twins. Jancen and Jaina Solo. They also have a younger child named Anakin Solo.
They become "Uncle Luke's" padawan.

Not totally true. Jaina is trained mostly by Mara Jade. Anakin and Jacen are mostly trained by Luke.

Java the Hutt is a clear rip off of the Pizza the Hutt franchise. Our lawyers will be in touch. [Mad]

Jedis, pirates, and gangster we can handle. Please, NOT the LAWYERS! [Angst]

Maybe pod racing is just a natural outgrowth of the Hutt's "deliver in thirty minutes or you can eat our delivery [enter species name here]" policy.

I was under the impression that GL has stated pretty clearly that the sequels will not be made.

No, he just said that HE would never make them.

No, he's also stated that he wouldn't mind passing the reins of certain projects on to other people, much in the same way that the EU has been created entirely by other authors. If a Star Wars television series were ever started by him, it would most certainly not continue to be run by him, he'd pass it on to someone else once it got started.

No one could ever make a third trilogy without his say, that's for sure. But if someone pitched a good enough idea to him, such as, I think, the Thrawn Trilogy would be, I think in a given time period (say, 15-20 years from now if he is alive), he'd accept it. Or if after he dies, I think he'd make provisions for there to be more films made.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I don't think he'd make the Thrawn trilogy.

At least, I hope he wouldn't. I like it too much to see it massacred as a movie.

Posted by Dagonee (Member # 5818) on :

The best TV series he could make would be one based on the X-Wing series, especially Wraith Squadron. A little bit Space: Above and Beyond, a little bit Star Wars. Get someone with painstaking attention to continuity to do it and it could go on for years and be interesting.

What I'm scared of is the new movies completely overturning books like the Thrawn Trilogy with a completely different storyline.I used to read all the starwars books and the Thrawn Trilogy was the only ones I kept after I grew out of it and sold the rest to a used book store.

Put your rant detectors on. here goes.

I don't understand why anyone here is suggesting Lucas be let near a camera without heavy guards ever again.

Kudos for coming up with the Galaxy in the first place but he has lost all of my respect. I would love to see more movies in this universe under these conditions.

1. Lucas is an executive producer only.
2. Lucas is does not write anything except the preamble. (Read: No sappy preteen inspired one liners)
3. Lucas does not direct anything, even one cg sequence. Especially those involving either "comic robots" or animals.
4. Lucas allows somone with a modicum of tactical ability to influence the simulated technology and direct battle scenes.

If these factors were observed then PERHAPS the franchise might be justified in going to a version of the Zhan books.

I think they're the only ones with the emotional depth and characteral depth to drive a trilogy. Thrawn, Jade, Talon Karrde, the Noghri and C'both. I think a compelling series could come from that. But only if Lucas finally figures out that one man cannot carry the creative load of such a universe alone. When that happens you get the Phantom Movie and When Clones Attack.

whew. I'm done.

Several folks have it right I think. The birth of the new Jedi twins and the re-establishment of the Jedi Academy. I think the trials and tribulations of the reformation of the Republic and Senate in particular would be cool.

"I think the trials and tribulations of the reformation of the Republic and Senate in particular would be cool."

Who would you focus such a large story on? That encompasses too many characters to make a viable TV show. I've always liked the idea of an X-Wing series. Even if it only runs for a few years, then can restart it after with a new squadron of ships, or mix it up and use a different type of ship. It'll be Star Trek like in that sense, recurring characters, but new shows switch squads like new Star Trek shows switched ships.

It'll have to be heavily character driven though. The budget for battle scenes would only be so big, though I think it would be popular enough to afford more, all the technology and people are already in place at ILM. So the majority of the show would revolve around the lives of the squadron members away from battle. Be it on a ship, on a base, or whatever. Rogue and Wraith Squadrons are already established. But then there are others as well, the Tierfon Yellow Aces, why not do the Imperial 181st?

The possibilities are endless, and whoever writes the show will have massive fount of knowledge to draw upon with built in characters that are already richly flushed out, all they have to do is put it to television.

Future of Geekdom

This confirms there will be TWO new Star Wars tv shows in the works. Now I'm REALLY curious.
