Two nights in a row, at about this time, we've got birds outside chirping. What birds chirp at night? This is so weird.

There is a bird that sings at about 4 AM in the summer when we camp, and I used to know its name. A type of thrush, I think.

Mack, yours could be a whipoorwill, if it sounds like its name.

The birds start singing about four around here.

Not like I know from personal experience or anything. [Roll Eyes]

The nightengale?

Then the lark sings in the morning.

After that you'd better hurry because they'll kill you if you don't get the heck out of Verona.

Either the mockingbird or the mimic thrush. One of my good friends is a PhD candidate who studies birds. And he's in HAWAII right now. Not that I'm jealous or anything. But he's my goto man for bird questions and he isn't around. *shakes fist*

I was playing bird calls last night trying to identify the bird. The window was open, and the bird kept answering back. [Big Grin]

I am pretty sure the predawn bird was the hermit thrush, now that I think about it. It was absolutely beautiful.

If it's a mockingbird (= mimic thrush), identifying it by its call might be a wasted effort.

They mock (i.e., mimic) other birds.

When I read about the hermit thrush, it said they sing after dusk, but are most easily heard befpre dawn.
My daughter and I were lying together in the tent in the woods at about four AM, and it is one of those moments in time that I will cherish forever.

Well, whatever the bird is, he answered the calls I was playing. [Razz]
