I mentioned earlier that I have a puddle forming in the middle of my room that won't go away. The problem with this is the fact that I have a carpetted floor. As of now, my room smells like a towel that has been used and left unwashed for several days. I need help doing two things 1. Drying this thing out. Are there any products out there that will deep dry a carpet? 2. Getting the mildew smell out.

Fans. Lots of them. Water pump or wet vac to suck out all the water.
Mildew - some kind of cleaner, possibly bleach. I dunno exactly.
Are you renting or do you own? Is it your fault or your landlord's? Can you make them deal with it (if you're renting, that is)?

I would not use bleach...would be bad for the carpet.
Fans are a must...that is what my apartment maintenance ppeople did when our floor got wet (when the washer of the people who lived above us went nuts.
They also used some powdered stuff to prevent mildew...not sure what it was though. You might go to home depot and ask.
Though, you need to stop the source of the leak first. None of that will do any good if more water is getting added.

Yeah, I know bleach is bad for the carpet, but you've also got to use something to make sure mildew doesn't grow or you could get seriously ill. And I don't have a lot of sympathy for the landlord and ruined carpets if it's their fault the water's there and they ain't doin' nuthin'.

I seriously think this is due to a crack in the foundation or something like that. It's like the puddle that won't go away.

It is your landlord's responsibility to take care of the problem, then. Have you contacted them about it? Besides not being good for their investment (damage to the carpet and substructure), the water problem can lead to mold growth - a health hazard (and one that can be expensive to fix), so hopefully your landlord will act quickly.

This reminds me of Narnia con where one of my kids spilled something on the rug and the other one asked for a towel and everyone was shocked we would use a towel to clean up a spill, and I then revealed that I married into a family that uses a clean towel every time they shower. But the point is, if you put a towel on the carpet and stand on it, it absorbs a lot of water. Unless the towel is really wet to begin with.
