I know we've done this before, but I read something KarlEd said in another thread:

quote:
It's a good thing I don't have super powers because I would not be able to prevent myself from blasting guys like that to cinders.
And it occurred to me that you can make up any superpower you want, so what would be the ideal pacifist super power?

What super power would you want, and how would you use it?

Some days I pretend that I have the power to give people "Good Days". Like if a check-out person is really nice to me, I will mentally go "Giving good day to that person". Or if someone was really cool to me, I would give them an entire good week.

Then when someone was a jerk to me, I would have to resist the urge to give them a bad day. But I realized that the negative part wasn't a power I would want. The ability to give good days was enough [Smile] .

(Coincidently, Phil is NOT having a good day)

Search power?! [Razz]

Edit: Wow... I just tried to ghost-bump the other thread, and after deleting the *bump* post, it dissapeared from the first page! No more ghost-bumps, I guess...

The problem with any "pacifist" super power is it seems like it would need to be somewhat violent in order to prevent violent people from doing violent things. I suppose some sort of mind control or the ability to restrain them mentally could work, but both of those powers would rob them of their freedom and therefore still might not fit the pacifist requirement.

I guess in the end if you had the super power to emit vast amounts of happiness-inducing endorphins, it might prevent violent people from doing violent things. However, the power itself would be so lame that it almost wouldn't be worth it.

Xavier, that's a really nice idea! [Smile] I like the concept of mental well-wishing.

Mine is not so positive. I occasionally pretend that I have the power to make rude drivers disappear. They're rude, I narrow my eyes, and *pop!* they're gone.

Edited because I guess pressing a button wouldn't be so much of a super-power, would it?

Unstoppable rectal itch.

Corwin- I said I knew we'd done it before, Smarty-pants. [Wink]

Which reminds me... I'd like to have the power to give immediate, explosive diarrhea to people. It's not violent, but it would prevent certain violent offenses. I suppose i'd have to read their minds to know what they were going to do.

Bad guy: Hey! I think I'll rob a bank!

*ZAP*

Bad guy: Maybe later.

I thought of that. But of course the real threat is that they might dehydrate too much and die.

But with something like rectal itch, well, it keeps them busy, renders them suitably odious (both physically and socially), and is a good punishment.

really the ultimate pacifist super power would be being able to turn intangible, and just let stuff like fists, people, bullets, go right through you. I say the ultimate pacifist super power because it is to have no affect on the world around you.

I've often thought that I'd like to power to turn people's cars into whatever different car I liked. So let's say the guy in the ridiculous Hummer just cut me off, POOF!, he's driving a Gremlin.

I would want the power to fly. I don't think that that can really be used for TOO much evil. Besides, I'm too lawful good to do anything with it.

personally, I'd like to be able to teleport. I guess that could be used as a 'pacifist' power, since you could teleport away from danger, rather than facing it. [Razz]

Though, I'd mostly use it to save time (since I would no longer have to drive places).

I had this dream where I was part of a group of people with strange abilities. I guess like the X-men, but without money or gadgets. Basically mutants on the run. My super power was that I could erase things from people's memory. Make them forget they saw me/us, things like that. It was really draining, and if I wasn't careful I could wipe them clean.

A big baddie was after us and I was so tired I couldn't control it and I left him diapers and spoonfeeding condition. The really awful thing tthing was that once I'd erased the memories from someone, whatever I'd taken was in my head.

Oh, my.

*scampers off to write short story*

Hey! You're right. I'm going to go dig that thread up! [Evil Laugh] Seeing as I started it, I mean. [Razz]

Edit: [Cry] I CAN'T FIND IT! [Cry]

I linked to it!!! You really need a search function, Steve! [Razz]

I would settle for a point of view gun. Just a blast from one of those and those guys would've been like, "Hey, what the hell are we doing? This is totall irrational and absolutely ridiculous. Man, I'm going to go home and think about this stupid, stupid action of mine."

Where is it? WHERE IS IT? Please, tell me. I want to know where it is.....please....*breaks down*

Oh yeah, Book, that's gotta be one of the best weapons ever! I'd also like other people to point it towards me sometime, it would save all of us a lot of trouble... [Big Grin]

Edit: Steve, I linked to it in my first post of this thread. Just click on the link.

Edit2: Guess you found it.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Yeah, I found it. I thought you meant in another thread or something. Either way, I bumped it with a real post.

Posted by Olivetta (Member # 6456) on :

So, shall I delte this one?

Posted by Book (Member # 5500) on :

Maybe not a gun, but, let's say... the gift of super-fast flight and the ability to link people's minds so they both understand what they're thinking. That was I can be in all sorts of places at once, be it in Geneva, South Africa, or a mugging in New York, and can lead people to better understanding of each other.

This would also help people who're deaf or have speech impediments. Also, it'd be easy to get people to fall in love.

I think I'd call myself The Great Communicator. [Smile]

EDIT: No, don't delete it! My idea is the best ever! And I'd hate to go to all the trouble of copying and pasting it in another thread!

It's just... too much... [Frown]

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Olivetta, have you read Firestarter? The power you are describing is VERY similar to one in the book.

Oh and don't delete this, or else our posts will be lost in the void which is cyber-nothingness!

Posted by Corwin (Member # 5705) on :

Olivetta: Noooooooooooooo! I mean, we've got the two God threads and these two are just a step down from those, I'm sure two of them can coexist without any problems...

Edit: I think Olivetta just got the power that makes us post in her thread! [Big Grin]

Posted by Olivetta (Member # 6456) on :

Oh, okay. Sorry. The thread hadd several posts added while I was writing my "should I delete" one. No big. I just didn't want Steve to feel like I was dissin' him, is all.

No, I actually never read Firestarter. I thought her power was staring fires. [Wink]

Did someone say "want"?

It can all be yours, you know.

I'd like to be able to walk/run anywhere. Through walls, on water, anywhere.

Why would that be lame? The ability to induce happiness would be pretty useful, I'd imagine.
