Hello I'm new here. Getting ready to read Giant and just re-read EG and the first three Shadow books again.

My sons really like the OSC series. Years ago I read a book about a fellow who falls from a skyscraper while working and isn't harmed. He goes on to become what was believed to be the second messiah from what I recall. I'm trying to remember the title and hopefully get the author's name. I believe the book had Second Son in the title but all library and bookstore searches don't bring anything up that sounds right.
Does anyone here know of what book I type of?

I think he is talking about something else...Alvin never tumbled from a skyscraper.

I really wasn't science fiction just fiction. It took place in our day on Earth. The politicians and the Vatican were all involved in the story.

well, The crow was chucked out of his apartment window and killed...but came back and fought bad guys. Though, I don't think that is what you are looking for.

Was it this one? The Second Son by Charles Sailor. It doesn't have a synopsis, so I'm not sure.

I read the reviews on that link, and it sounds like it could be the same book.

He didn't fall from a skyscraper. I believe he was helping to build a church, and fell from the roof-beam.

Edit: If you were talking about "Seventh Son", that is.

He wasn't, I don't think.

The ridgebeam fell on him. He didn't fall from it. Peggy split it, though, right? It was the millstone that she split and he mended because the family needed it so badly. Or am I remembering this all wrong?

No, you're remembering right. Peggy split both the ridgebeam and the millstone when they fell on him, but Alvin mended the millstone and let it fall on him anyway, because the family had worked so hard to get it and needed it so badly.

I think it is the Charles Sailor book that you are looking for. I saw a review of the book that said, "This does sound like the basis for Unbreakable but without the connection to the church and the state."

Ooh, yep. That is definately the book. From the cover. . .

In an heroic effort to rescue a fellow iron worker, Joseph turner fell 24 stories to the pavement below.

The world was not prepared for what happened next. . .

That's the book! Thanks. If you look at the closeup of the book cover you'll see him falling from the skyscraper in the lower right hand picture. This is a great book.

Ah yes, that's right. It's been so long since I read it. I still haven't read Crystal City, either. [Frown]
