Is a mayfly thread one that you delete after whoever you are talking to responds?

Cause I looked it up on Dictionary.com , and this is what i get:

Any of various fragile winged insects of the order Ephemeroptera that develop from aquatic nymphs and live in the adult stage no longer than a few days. Also called dayfly, shadfly.

They're threads that are intended to be short lived. Going into them, posters know that once the thread has served its purpose it is likely to be deleted.

I'm actually pretty proud of the fact that a term I coined has become a Hatrack meme.
