I drink a lot of orange juice. Just now I looked at the calories on the carton beside me. Calories per serving : 120. Servings per carton : 8. Calories per carton : 960. [Eek!] I just drank one of those... Ye gods! Is it good that the 'calories from fat' are 0? Maybe I should just stick to milk. But orange juice is so goood. [Frown]

Well, sugar is the new "evil". Any fruit juice is high in sugar, so if you are worried about insulin resistance, you might want to avoid taking that much in at one time.

Or eat protein when you do. [Smile]

I switched to V8, because orange juice has way too much sugar for that early in the morning.

Not for everyone, but I actually like it.

Fruit juice is from fruit, which is good for you but sugary. Whole fruit has a lot of fiber that counteracts the sugar. I've found that when I keep my sugar intake equal to my fiber intake, I tend to do well, and you can do that by eating whole fruits.

Juice is almost as bad for you as soda, man. It is pure sugar, although natural sugar.

Drink it if you wish, but not in that sort of quantity... [Big Grin]

BTW, how did the test go today?

Oh, moderately well, I think. Check the exam thread for details. I've decided to cut down my orange juice intake right sharply and eat oranges instead. And milk for dinner.

Good for you and high in potassium

I hate milk. Don't know why -- but I've never, ever been able to just "drink" the stuff straight. When I was in kindergarten, I even used to 'pretend' I was asleep during nap time, so the teacher wouldn't wake me up for the milk break.

There are only two times I will drink milk straight -- with chili; and when eating pancakes (sometimes). Otherwise, yech.

I'm just weird that way. Ivygirl drinks tons of milk. I grew up with raw milk, but still don't like any type.

(but I love orange juice!)

I used to love milk...I still do, if I can eat chocolate with it. But otherwise it just doesn't taste the same anymore.

Long ago, when in grade school, I had the odd habit of drinking from the chocolate milk and orange juice cartons at once, with straws of course. Somehow I thought it tasted great. I haven't had the chance to try that again lately.

I used to think, when I was a teen, I had grown out of my taste for milk...

Then I realized it was because my mother was buying 1/2% milk instead of 2%. [Mad]

1% is about as low as I can go before it starts tasting like coloured water. Whole milk is soooo yummy...

Too bad milk in large quantities upsets my stomache and gives me a headache =(

See, I can't drink anything but skim, or occasionally 1/2%, or maybe, on cereal, 1%. Fatty milk tastes like someone dumped oil in my milk. Ick.

When you drink that much OJ, doesn't it just go straight through you? That's what it does to me. Especially the kind with pulp.

Well, yes, but so what? I drink it (drank it, I should say) for the taste. I could care less what happens after it goes down my throat. Well, except for this issue of the VAST number of calories.

KoM, are you in the United States at the moment? Something you said the other day made it seem like you were, but I didn't know. Are you studying here?

Posted by King of Men (Member # 6684) on :

I'm studying at the University of Cincinnati.

But if it goes straight through you, you don't absorb all the calories, right? [Wink]

Cool. How are you liking it there?
