Happy Purim everyone!

"Purim is the one holiday on Jews are supposed to get drunk – to the point that they lose the ability to distinguish between Mordechai and Haman. This condition is denoted by a compound word “adloyada” meaning "until he does not know the difference." In modern Israel, a carnival - called an “adloyada” is celebrated in almost every Israeli city on Purim."

Some days it's simply a lot of fun to be Jewish. [Smile]

The rabbi offered me a chocolate hamantaschen yesterday. It was the first chocolate thing I was really conflicted about turning down in a long time.

I also read on a website that Purim is the one time it's okay for observant Jews to cross dress. Whoo hooo!

The day before Purim sucks though.
Why?

The day before Purim is the Fast of Esther. No eating or drinking allowed.

And when Purim falls on Friday (as it does this year), it makes things a bit more complicated.

Although it's not nearly as complicated here as in Yerushalayim (and Shushan, I suppose, although I don't know of any Jews still living there). Purim spans three days there this year . . .

חג שמח לכולם!

Would they wear transvestments?

Actually, Trevor, very few men (and no women that I know) get drunk enough on Purim that the next day is a problem.

Hey Rivka, what does Choleem mean? All I could understand out of that was "happy holiday to (something)."

It's kulam -- all of y'all. [Wink]

*ponders* But I think I might have been supposed to leave out the vav.

The spelling was fine, rivka - Israeli style. [Smile]

I know very few people who actually fast the day before Purim, even religious ones... but yes, I know a few. [Smile]

Chag sameach everyone! [Kiss]

Kwea, Squick hasn't posted in this thread . . .

Last batch of hamentaschen are in the oven now.

No, I don't always put things off to the very last second. Why do you ask? O:)

We didn't even make any this year. [Frown] I'm not sure why not.

But it's fun to walk in the Moshava and see everyone in costume!

If I were going to dobie this thread, my subject line would be "Ham Sammich!".

But I'm not going to do that.

Noemon, I think what you did is the perfect way to dobie threads. I will follow your example from here on out.

Mostly.
