For those that had to witness the posts I had over the past while, I'm sorry. I have been out of sorts since Tuesday. It started out fine. I was attending a going away party for the senior chief that I worked for for over 3 years.

I was going to call my friend Josh to see if he was home from work yet. Instead I recieved a message from my mom on my voice mail. She said that I "have to call home now." [Angst] There is only one other time I have recieved this kind of message. When my friend John's uncle died (He had been a backpacking partner for a while).

So I called immediately. My mom picks up and tells me that my grandmother (she had a major stroke in '87) had pneumonia she wasn't looking to make it. Mind you, I had spent almost every weekend I didn't have a baseball game to play at her house. There were times when she had to drive me to school because I was still staying over. Can't blame me too much.....she was a great cook [Smile] .

So my happy note of a day had a horrible ending. I told her she needed to get an AmCross thru to my ship if they wanted me to be there. I waited a couple hours at the party before I left. I had to get some advice from the guys that I worked with on what I should do.

Now, I had a few (3 or 4) beers at the party. Practically walked home. However, when I got to the house I figured on drinking more. I broke out the bottle of Crown Royal. Which if you don't know, it has a lot more alchohol in it than Killian's Irish Red. I promise to never attempt to post while I am doing that again. Ouch, it was awful. I eventually went to sleep on the couch only to wake up to the last of the Crown Royal spilling onto my jeans.

My mom did not send the AmCross immediately. In fact she didn't at all (mom has a tendancy to forget when she has a rough time). I had duty the next day, in which I had to stay on board the ship all day and night. Especially since I was standing a 24 hour watch, and nobody to relieve me till the next day. I called home. My dad (his mom is the lady with pneumonia) had just got home. He had had a half hour of sleep the previous night and was very tired. However, he promised to send the AmCross the next morning.

The AmCross has to be sent so I can take Emergency Leave. Which breaks a few standards as it routes through the chain of command. 1) It routes through a hell of a lot faster. 2) Accomodations are made in which they find someone to take your place while you are gone almost regardless of expense. 3) The chaplains are there to help with anything. 4) It starts almost immediately.

The good news came through last night. After being on a breathing machine and having a few operations and being hooked up to some other contraptions, she finally broke out of it. Though it cost her the work of her heart which spent a lot of energy while she lay there trying to breathe. She is now at my grandpa's house, but we don't know how much longer she will be with us.

Like her son, my Uncle Tim said "Been preparing for this for 17 years, and I'm still not ready."

An' I want to slap the ever livin' heck out of that nurse. the nerve. "How do you know she wants to live?" Right to my grandfather. How can people say that? Should just keep their trap shut. They've been together over 50 years. I can't see how he kept his composure on that.

Anyway, my dad put a hold on the AmCross message. Which I told my dad was ok.

Wow, I'm glad she pulled through.

My 97 year old grandpa has done this to us a few times. He's bounced back every time. [Smile] I hope your grandmother recovers.

(((((Stan and family))))) My grandfather is fighting cancer as we speak. So I know what you're going through. And we lost my grandmother four years ago... she was very sick, and for 20 years everyone kept saying she didn't have much time left, but she held on!

*hugs* I hope your grandma recovers.

I'm glad she's okay. I hope she sticks around for a good while. Sorry you had to go through a close call. [Smile]

That nurse IS an idiot. And absolute, freaking lowlife idiot. I'd say everyone in your family ought to call her supervisors to complain about her lack of sensitivity. That story really ticks me off! [Mad]
