I'm trying to figure out the best position to place my wireless router so I can get some better reception than "Very Low" in my room. It seems to me that moving the router up has more of an effect than moving it closer.

And the little antenna things, do they do anything?

And do waves come out spherically?

they must, because the position of mine definately affects the signal [Dont Know]

How close are these two locations?

Try to move it so the straight line path between them has the least interference (power lines, lots of metal, particularly sheet metal, just plain old solid matter, et cetera).

and do fiddle with the antennas, that can help. You also might consider putting an antenna (home made is fine, there are directions all over the net) on your wireless card in your computer.

The position of the antenna makes a huge difference, especially with some directional antennas. In a small room, you'll also find that elevating the router will give you better coverage (as you've observed.)
