From this week's Onion: www.theonion.com

quote:
MALIBU, CA—U2 guitarist The Edge, born David Evans, introduces himself by his stage name, sources reported Monday. "He showed up at parent-teacher conferences, extended his hand, and said, 'Hi, I'm Sian's father The Edge,'" said Dory Beckman, a second-grade teacher at Malibu Heights Elementary. "I didn't quite understand, so he said, 'U2's The Edge.' Well, I guess with all the records he's sold, he's entitled to call himself whatever he wants." Employees at Gladstone's 4 Fish restaurant said Evans placed "The Edge" on their waiting list when he took his family out for fried scallops last week.

That's pretty great.

They probably should have researched a little better though... Sian is currently dying of cancer. [Frown]

Annie, i'm curious. What does him dying of cancer have to do with research for the article? Yes, they mention the kid and refer to a parent teacher meeting.

note: i'm not trying to be insensitive, i am just trying to figure out the relevance.

Ben, it is a sensitivity issue. I would not think they should necessarily have to research everyone they make fun of, but they might feel kind of bad if they knew he had cancer.

On a lighter note, let's think of other names that would be pretty darned funny in the teacher's conference setting:

"Hi, I'm Demon, so-and-so's dad."

I'm Slash, and I'd appreciate you allowing my child to wear a hat in the classroom.
