Does anyone know if there's any planned sequel to Children of the Mind? I find that it kind of left us hanging a bit... I mean, what about the Descolada planet and the beings who live there?

I picked up "Ender's Shadow" thinking that it might finish off the story, but I guess I was wrong. Not saying anything bad about Ender's Shadow, but I was a bit dissapointed when I discovered that the rest of the series invlolving Ender Wiggin follows a different timeline! I don't know about anyone else, but I think a final book to kind of wrap it up would be awesome.

Theres going to be a linking book between the shadow series and the speaker series, in which we learn that Bean blew Earth up years ago, and took over as the supreme ruler of the universe. He and Ender are scheduled for a big battle to the death duel. In a pit.

Oh, and this will probably be moved over to the Discussions about Orson Scott Card side of the forum. Welcome to hatrack.

Haha... good one. By the way, Ender dies in Children of the Mind. Good try, though.

Tell that to Peter/Ender.

We should call him "Pretender", It just fits.

Peder?

Peder sounds dirty.

Sarge? Why did you put this same post on both sides of the forum? We answer over there too, just fine.

OH - never mind. I guess it was here first. I read it over there first, so I was confused.

Petdrew, if you want to be technical. Ender wasn't his real name.

Actually, most people pronounce "Peter" as "Peder".

I dont know about a sequel to CoTM. It's the culmination of a fantastic series in my opinion, and with Ender dying, their's no real purpose in the continuation of the Ender saga.

As for the fact about not everything being summed up, I've never read a book that explains absolutely everything, and if OSC were to continue writing sequels for the purpose of explanation, we would be reading about post Ender for a long, long time.

True, Nestor. However, the discovery of yet another sentient species, the "Descoladores" as they were called, is a pretty big thing, in my opinion.

Not really. We've already read about what happens when humans encounter new species in the Enderverse. Twice.

Of course this would be the first time Humans could show restraint by not trying to wipe the new aliens out of the Galaxy.

I hated the ending when I first read it, but now I like it. Basically, it says, "The adventure is not over. It is never over."

That's what I want. I want mysteries in my universe, and brave people trying to figure them out. I want motivation to keep exploring.

My pet theory now is that Volescu, shipped off to a remote research facility, actually winds up creating the Descoladores; as Card's written him, they're exactly the kind of race he'd find fascinating.

You know, I think you've got something there. The Descolada is exactly the kind of thing Volescu would create. The only question is, how? According to Graff and Rackham, they were going to send him on a colony after he had found a cure for Bean, and make sure he had no equipment of any kind that would help him build something like that. I wont be surprised if your right though, and Volescu finds a way to weasel out of his restraints and create such a thing.
