He has already lost one leg, and they are trying to save the other by doing a vein graft.
His heart is questionable.
He is diabetic.
He has had two strokes already.
The last couple of times he's gone in for a stress test, he's ended up being rushed into intensive care.
My father is also one of the most alive people, aware, fun, positive, and memorable that you will ever meet.
I could write a book about him, but my mother already did. (She's looking for an agent and publisher now)
The surgery will hopefully allow him to keep his one leg, thus allowing my parents to remain in their home un-assisted.
It would allow them to go to Florida over the summer, taking my son on his first trip to Disney World. Some times I think that is all that my father is planning on before passing on.
If the surgery is unsuccessful he may loose the remaining leg. This would mean my parents could no longer live unassisted. Either a retirement home would be needed or family would have to move in. Already that idea is causing friction along family lines.
Or, my father may not survive the operation. (That was one of the hardest sentences I've ever had to write.)
So, whatever good wishes or prayers or whatever you folks can pass his way, they will be greatly appreciated.

That's the same day my husband's aunt is going in for her lumpectomy (breast cancer). I'll add prayers for your father to my prayers for Aunt Gwen.

My Grandfather went through a similar situation last year - he is diabetic, and has already had a couple of heart attacks. A lung cancer was found and they had to remove it.
But - he survived the anaesthetic, survived the operation.

My mom and aunt are both diabetic. My aunt just underwent hip replacement surgery and has terrible circulation in both of her legs. Even though things are going well for her now (thank goodness) I understand some small portion of what you must be going through. ~~~Dan~~~

Thanks all--Great news.
The surgery was a great success.
As of 5:00pm he was in the ICU doing remarkably well.
By tomorrow he'll be in a regular room, and by Monday or so he'll be home.

Dan, I'm so glad to hear the good news. I've been on a short posting hiatus (busy with RL stuff), but I did read the thread and prayed for your father. There's diabetes in my family, too, so I know how hard it can be.
