*sob*

ANOTHER Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time, book...
"Knife of Dreams"
That's what they're calling it...

I don't think I can read much more of this...why can't he just END the story?????
[Cry]

So don't read it! Honestly. You're only encouraging him.

The Wheel of Time has long since ceased to be a series of stories. Now it's a mine. As long as people keep buying the chunks Robert Jordan can pull out of it, he'll keep jis hand on the shovel.

I haven't read any since I practically burned to death in The Fires of Heaven.

Henceforth referred to by some as Knife in My Head.

heheh.. too true.

Ugh... but that's the evilness of it! I've come so far I CAN'T not read it! Must. find. out. what. happens!

Although... I didn't read that prequel book of his... maybe I can find the strength to avoid this new one...

Oh, I know. You just HAVE to see what happens ( or, as was the case in Crossroads of Twilight doesn't happen for almost 1,000 pages,) next.

If I have to read another 300 page chapter about women with heaving bosoms and sweaty skin getting out of bed just to have tea and talk about how they just don't understand their men I will scream.

I am going to wait for the last book, read it, and be done with it forever.
it really burns my biscuits, too, because I loved the first three books.

Edit:
Telp, it was the increasing amount of woman-spanking that queebed me out.

I've heard the theory that he was under contract to write ten books, and now that he's finally reached that number he can wrap up the story...

Except our heroes are nowhere near even understanding the Dark Lord, let alone beating him. *sigh*

If you're only reading to find out what happens, why not just ask somebody who's read the book to spoil it for you? [Smile]

Dude. Give up now. You're only delaying the inevitable (you giving up), and causing yourself more pain in the process.

lol!
I will never give up!

Wait... hey! Your evil reverse psychology won't work on me!

I read the first four or so books of that series with great enthusiasm. The next couple, not so much. I'm not even sure what book he's on now, but I stopped reading once there actually stopped being a story there. I just can't bring myself to care what happens to the characters anymore (although I guess if I found a short synopsis of the whole thing, I'd probably read it).

ummm ... [Wink]

okay, you can probably guess where my nick came from - but I haven't read any of his books in a while. I will probably read the new one when it comes out ... when is that, anyway?

So who's going to volunteer to read it and post a synopsis?

If I could stop watching X-files (I think it was season 6) surely you can stop this. By the way, how is your life with respect to work, relationship, and nicotine? How about the beard? My hubby grew a beard and it's glorious.

P.S. And I'm still in the job hunt, actually feeling torn between two leads right now, but have decided I will be applying to grad school next winter (Master of Science in Public Health, I want to do diabetes II prevention research especially whether public health messages are getting through to immigrants.) hoping to start in fall of 2006.

The series is actually supposed to be 12 books not including prequels. This is book number 11. So in two more years, the series should finally be done. Well, except for the two other prequels he wants to write. He has stuck to the 12 number for the last six years at least, so I hope nothing is changing now.

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

He is on 11 already!! I had no idea.

Huh, Elizabeth, I had no idea either.

This is exactly what I intend to do. When the series is finished (yeah right, Jordan will die first and one of his incompetent sons will finish the series for him in a proverbial heap of horse manure) I will sit down someone who has suffered through them all and get them to tell me the very long, convoluted story.

I have read them all myself, and I loved the first three books...the rest have gone downhill from that. I will probably read the whole thing, but I am not buying them anymore...I had started collecting the Hardcovers, but I stalled at 4...I do love the bargin tables though, you can pick them up for under 5 bucks... I have read them all and I will continue to do so. I too have grown frustrated with the rambling of the storyline, but there are still things I enjoy in the books. Beyond that, I am obsessive-compulsive. :-\ I am glad to hear Jordan has a plan in mind, though.

-o-

The prequel, by the way, was actually quite good. Better than most of the books in the series, by virtue of its brevity.

*fingers crossed*

I HOPE- I truly do- that this book will be satisfying. Interestingly, for his last 3 books, he was published roughly 6 weeks after turning in the manuscript. With no real editorial process (though of course, his wife being the main editor, he probably got some, albeit less than he might have had from some other, more neutral party), 2 out of those 3 books were hugely disappointing (I love Winter's Heart. It really felt like the magic was back and the series was on its way- answers were given, saidin was cleansed, other stuff happened. That's partly what made Crossroads so bad, I think, in addition to the usual getting bogged down with details. It's humerous to read the thousands of bad reviews at Amazon. Clearly, TOR and RJ know that they have really dropped the ball.)

For this book, however, he is insisting on a the full editorial process, so that we're looking at an October release, though he should have it done in May. And he has recently repeated the hope that the series will be done by the 12th book, so there's that.

So I am hoping, and actually feel pretty confidant about this one. But who am I kidding. I will finish this no matter what. Too many years invested (since 1993- sheesh!).

I am guessing the "spanking" came in to play *after* book 4? (I never read past book 4.) What's up with that?

Posted by TheHumanTarget (Member # 7129) on :

The preview book that he wrote was actually the best thing he's written in years.

Work is alomst non-existant. Part time still, working as security for Oakwood Hospital, the retirement commons...taking care of old folks. Kinda scary at first but now it's actually enjoyable. But only working 16 hours a week. [Frown] Falling behind on bills...and because of ADD and a poor memory I forgot to call unemployment and because of that slip I'm not not qualified anymore for money.

Relationship... well... not really there either. [Wink] I still have a crush on my good friend Neal, who is unfortunatly straight but likes to dress in drag time to time (don't ask). That's going nowhere fast of course. I have an odd relationship with his cousin...but he's in the closet still with two young daughters so there is no future in that either. My friend Heather tried to hook me up with her husband's friend Greg...and while he is a sci-fi geek like me and we have alot in common he is not my type at all, so we'll probably just remain friends. I'm sure Neal has some gay/bisexual tendencies...and we are such good friends and share everything that it would have been a perfect match. Damn you biology! Even if he is a little bi he's probably only 5 or 10%...not enough for him to commit to another man. And we have talked about it! He wishes I was a woman and all would be well with the world! Lol!

Ciggies... well... I stopped smoking for a week... but have lapsed a bit. Usually steal a smoke once or twice a day. I'm a bit stressed so I smoked a whole pack the other day. Opps.

My new work is very cool with my earrings and goatee. [Smile] So it's back and I'm happy about that. And with my new sporty short haircut I'm looking very fine, if I do say so myself.

Thanks for asking! [Smile]

There were references to spanking in the first 4 books as well. Not shown, mind, but still referred to. The Supergirls in the tower after they had come back from Falme, for example. And in book 4 Perrin turned Faile over his knee when she kept slapping him in the face over and over again the ways.

But the truth is, I don't recall any scenes actually SHOWING spanking. I take that back. They showed the "tail end" of one (how's that for a pun, aye?) when Egwene was beaten in Lord of Chaos for entering Tel...rod after she had been forbidden to by the wise ones. Didn't last long, though.

Definitely a fetish, though. And have you noticed all the groups of women who sit around each other naked- naked ceremonies, naked tea, naked raising of the Amyrlin seat. Kind of funny, actually. Like the "slumber parties" the stereotypical male always imagines happens among women (cue Seinfeld reference.)

Ah, I guess there were references. It has been years since I read them and I forgot.

Yeah, I did get the feeling that when reading the books I was stuck in Jordan's twisted little fantasy world. Not as blatant as other authors, like Piers Anthony mind you, but enough that I disliked it.

Funny, George R. R. Martin is far more graphic, and yet he never makes me feel that way.
