Holy crap, I know how this kid feels.

Mack -- did that guy (in the Olympic shot) actually get HURT? I mean - it penetrated his mask....

FG

I think it went behind his head although it does look a little creepy.

Ah - I see. Optical illusion........

Wow, what an action shot! [Eek!] It would make a great poster.

That guy didn't get hurt. However, one of the men's saber competitors got stabbed through the hand during this year olympics.

Jamie, what's your weapon of choice again?

I've wanted to learn Saber for ages...

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Right now I'm still on foil. I'm eventually going to take up saber as well, but I can't until my coach says I'm ready for it.

Saber is ridiculously fun. And brutal, in the realm of the untrained (which includes me).

Great photo.

Sabers are more piratical too. or would that be Sabarrrghs.

Saber, but with epee targets. Now you're getting into some serious fencin'...

Posted by Jim-Me (Member # 6426) on :

Epee targets is "anything" isn't it?

Posted by Chris Bridges (Member # 1138) on :

Yup. Normal saber targets are the torso, head and arms. Closest thing I've found to "real" sword play is using sabers but without limiting the target area.

Not at all regulation, but a heck of a workout.

Fencing in general is a hell of a workout.

*loves the fencing*

I was supposed to compete tomorrow, but I'm a dumbass and forgot to get my car inspected. I have it registered, but forgot to get the new inspection sticker last month (you have to get the renewal during the month of your birth). You get ten days grace period into the following month before the cops get pissy. It's day 11. Going out of state tommorrow with an expired sticker would get me caught, 'cause I get caught for everything. Which means getting my car inspected at 11:30 tomorrow morning (Only appt available) instead of competing in the Maine State Open. [Frown]

Speaking of which (real swordplay) I saw "Troy" last night and was pleased (probably beyond any right I had) to see that Achilles defeated Hector by using a Kung Fu San Soo technique I know. [Cool]

Don't you know someone who would be willing to do a huge favor and get your car inspected for you? I bet you could bribe him with slurpees.

If I lived up there I'd do it in return for an introduction to your fencing teacher...

This is a great shot.

Yeah, but we still need to DRIVE to the venue. That's in Portland, Maine, an hour and a half away. Registration deadline for Women's Foil is 11:30 AM [Frown] . So unless I can sucker a friend into driving me...

So no Subaru purchase yet?

Actually, we ended up getting a 92 Isuzu Rodeo with 99,000 from my father for $2000. He's finishing fixing it up right now (my father is a mechanic and the one thing he can be trusted with is anything mechanical). The truck is actually worth about $3500, so he gave us a wicked deal, plus is doing all the work on it before we get it. My father's idea of a wedding gift, and it's a pretty damn good one.

It's also a standard, so I have to learn to drive one. I'm excited about that. [Big Grin]

The truck isn't done yet, so we still only have one vehicle. We COULD drop the car off at the place in the morning, rent a car, and drive out to Portland. Or maybe I can sucker a friend into driving. Maybe Veck. Hmm.

Cool you got such a great deal. Bummer it's not ready yet.

Maybe he should be helping instead of snapping photos.
