Do you know anything about what happened over Hawaii December 17th?

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap050208.html

Short overview of what was seen.

Personally, I can't make heads or tails of that second site. It's a discussion forum about the event and most of it is indecipherable to me.

An asteroid? Satellite? The rocket explanation doesn't make a lot of sense since it seems to have been launched after the images were seen.

Can anyone put that into English for those of us who don't understand scientific language? And what do you think it was?

Okay - we talked about this here at work now, Kayla, and we've decided:

It was the USS Enterprise - coming back for those humpback whales.....

Jeez, everyone knows the Enterprise didn't come back for the whales - it was a Klingon Bird of Prey. [Wink]

(and, you know, I even have that on VHS - you would think I would have remembered that!)

Everybody, everybody!

Please, come over here for just a second. Please.

OK. Now, just for a second, please look at this

>>flash<<

Thank you.

Now to get back on topic:

I think that the way the Bush administration is treating the Hawaiians is shameful--bordering on illegal. I think you'd all agree...

That is why he let the Vulcans land there in this timeline

It's probably a military test of something we shouldn't and don't want to know about... There were lots of UFO reports about the stealth bomber before the military fessed up about that.

What parts were confusing that you want explained?

It was pretty obviously a fuel dump from a recently launched rocket. The lack of parallax between the two observational stations rules out everything closer, and even as close as near-earth orbit. The fact that it was moving means that it wasn’t in geo-synch, so we’re left with two possibilities. It is either in mid-level orbit around the Earth, or it’s somewhere above near-Earth orbit routes but not actually orbiting Earth.

The most likely assumption due to the motion of the object makes it into a satellite (note: satellite merely means it orbits the Earth). This restricts it to mid-level orbit based on it’s speed. It’s too high for a plane (there’s simply no kind of pressure at above near-Earth to support the weight).

There was one eye-witness with a telescope who has reported his findings. A large, blob-shaped distribution shining well within the negative magnitude luminosity range; when he put his telescope up to look at it he described a soft light that was transparent.

At rocket was launched at the right time to do a fuel dump in that area; and also in the exact right direction for the traveling fuel. Excess fuel is dumped to minimize risk (basically so it wont blow up next to whatever someone is paying millions of dollars to put up there); the fuel quickly evaporates in the cold vacuum of space, quickly enough to fast-freeze the remaining fuel causing it to crystallize. These fuel crystals reflect an enormous amount of light, and at mid-Earth orbits can catch the Sun’s rays for long periods of time, even when the world they’re over is in darkness.

Though we often think of liquid dispersing when released, the almost complete lack of atmosphere allows the fuel to follow basic physical laws and coalesce together into a single orbital path, causing one shape to become apparent instead of dispersing through space. Though the lack of parallax doesn’t give an actual height, it can rule out anything that would be too close for this to happen.

Ohh, and anything farther away is pretty much ruled out by the lack of observations in other places in the world, geo-synch level orbits would be possible, but this clearly is not in geo-synch. The two identical readings from different stations also rules out simple instrument error. And the parralax distance issue gets rid of the idea of some stunt or prank.

I thought the rocket launch was two hours after these photos were taken. That makes it much harder to believe that it was fuel dump. Or did they find out that the rocket was launched earlier than originally thought?

Didn't this happen, like this past summer or something?

December 17, 2004 telp.

The rocket launch was at the appropriate time for this to happen. I'm not sure which one you saw that was at the wrong time, there were a few that people thought the blob might be the rocket itself and those were at the wrong time, but the rocket that did a fuel eject launched at the appropriate time.
