...but is it legal to post links here so that people can listen? I'm actually unclear on the legality of doing covers at all. I mean, I'm not selling them or anything, I recorded them purely for my own enjoyment, and thought I might share them if anyone was interested. However, if it isn't legal and/or if it violates the posting guidelines, then obviously I won't do it.

Anyone care to tell me what the rules are? [Smile]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

It's probably better to ask people if they'd like you to e-mail them the link, instead; that's just my take on it, but I don't think posting here would be the smartest thing to do.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

That's sage advice.

Well, you are in Canada, so US law does not apply.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

No, but Canadian law does. Not that I know what the Canadian law is. I suppose I could try to find out.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Right, well, while you're working on that, how 'bout you e-mail me the link? [Wink]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

You've already got the biggest email in the history of the universe. Are you sure you want more?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

In the meantime, I can give you some fiddling from earlier this month to chew on:

Evil's Malevolent Yang (The Tick, anyone? [Wink] )

[Edit: Finally! Hooray for TinyURL!]

That was more for other Americans than you. I know I tend to assume people are from the US until I find out otherwise.

And if you still have my email address, I would appreciate the link as well. [Smile]

When they are all hosted, you will get an email from me. [Smile]

I'm all about listening to some of your stuff, twink.

No s%*#. I started reading it right after I posted that, and I'm not halfway through yet. [Smile]

[Mad] No matter how I try, I can't fix the link to Evil's Malevolent Yang. I give up.

Use Tiny URL, like this. [Smile]

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Um, except for put the right link in it. [Razz]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Mine is right. Thanks, Dagonee! [Smile]

Raja,

When you have them hosted, fire a link my way.

Thanks.

How do you breath, exactly?

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

Ah, shaddup. [Razz]

*offers frangelico to take the sting off*

And if you tell me I spelled that incorrectly, too, you don't get any.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Deeply, it would seem.

Edit: Chrast! Beaten to the punch!

'Tis handy to know the best bribes for the spelling-police.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

It also helps when the spelling police like you, and feel a tad bad for ribbing you.

What, you think just anyone can bribe me?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Email sent. [Edit 2: So, everyone who has posted in this thread requesting one, YGM. Also, I think I'm going to make this my first mayfly thread. (Maybe.) It might not live past tomorrow night. I have never deleted posts before, but there's no time like the present to start. [Wink] ]

Edit 1: And I'm about halfway through uploading my cover of Under the Bridge. Tears in Heaven is already up, along with some other, more robust stuff.

np.

This whole thing was brought on by me *finally* recording a cover of Hurt tonight, which I've been meaning to do for... well, ever since I decided I wanted to do this cover project, which was last October. So a long time. It was most satisfying to get it done.

Posted by ElJay (Member # 6358) on :

I think Push is my favorite so far, although personally I prefer your originals off Idolatry.

Posted by solo (Member # 3148) on :

I also prefer your originals but I think that Tears in Heaven is the best of this bunch though Push is up there.

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

I'd like to listen to 'em, too, if you're still sending out emails.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

I spent a lot more time on the originals than I did on these. Idolatry was very personal because I was trying to impress my father; this is just a fun project. [Smile]

Edit: Goat, YGM.

I said that I preferred your originals, not that I preferred them to your versions of these songs. [Razz]

Have you listened to any Vast? A couple of songs off their album Nude seem to me to be kinda your "style," particularly I Can't Say No (To You) for some reason. *shrug*

Posted by Da_Goat (Member # 5529) on :

I think I prefer some the lyrical mistakes (?) made in Under the Bridge to the original. Tears in Heaven is my favorite, though.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

YGM?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

I meant I spent a lot more time on MY originals. Very funny. [Razz] I've never listened to any Vast. *appends to list*

Thanks, Goat. [Smile]

Edit: Mack, YGM == you've got mail.

Can you send ME mail?

Pleeeeaaase?

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

twinky, can you send me ane email with the link. If the covers are half as good as the tunes on Idolatry, they'll be amazing.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Derrell, YGM.

Mack, no, I can't, because not only is your address not in your profile, you have disabled the "email user" button. So as it stands, there is no way for me to email you unless I guess that admin at your domain would arrive at the right location. [Razz]

[Cool] I'm listening to Tears in Heaven right now. Good stuff.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

The next step on that score is to learn to play and sing it at the same time. That'll be a mighty big step.

Can I get a link please?

Posted by Derrell (Member # 6062) on :

You've got good taste in music. Clapton is one of my favorite guitar players. I love his solo work as well as the work he did with the various bands he was in. I think my favorite song is Layla.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Kwea, YGM.

Derrell, I've got 24 Nights and absolutely love playing lead along with that stuff. It's great. [Big Grin]

YGM, you two.

Also, some of you might not know some of the original artists. The ID3 tags contain that information in the "composer" attribute.

twinky, do you have paypal?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

PayPal? Um, I have it insofar as I occasionally use it to buy things via eBay, yes... [Confused]

Everyone who has requested: YGM. [Smile] Also, tomorrow I will be going away and won't be posting for a while, but I'll be reading the thread and will have email access, so I can send the links to people who make requests even though I won't actually be posting.

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

Is it the email addy you used to send me email?

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

No, it's a different one, and I'm not telling. [Monkeys]

Actually, I think the email I have associated with PayPal is due to expire sometime this year. I may have to change it.

I also want your original Cd....I know I missed the boat, but how do I go about getting my paws on one?

Posted by larisse (Member # 2221) on :

twinky,

Would you send me a link, as well? I'd love to hear the covers. Thanks.

Posted by Lucky4 (Member # 1420) on :

Well, clearly, my favorite is Lucky. [Big Grin]

And not just because of the name and the fact that it's Radiohead- I really liked the guitar on that one, taking the memorable licks from the original and adding some cool elements of your own.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

YGM, everyone who asked. And now I must depart. But as I said, I'll be checking my email and will be able to respond to requests for the link.

Narnia, you can get my album in one of two ways. First, you can download it for free from my website. Second, if you want a physical copy, email me your snail mail address and I'll make a copy and send it to you, no charge (I'll pay the shipping, too, I'm just glad to distribute it). Since I'll be away, though, if you want a physical copy it may be a while before I can send it to you. Just so you know.

Lucky was the first one I recorded, I'm pretty happy with it. It's one of my favourite Radiohead songs. [Smile]

Ela, I sent the link to your profile address this morning. It might be in your junk mail folder if you have an automated filter, because I have my own domain and use it to handle my email.

Edit: As it turns out, I can in fact post from here.

twinky... I know you might not want to do anymore covers, but have you ever thought of covering "Wish You Were Here" also a Floyd song. Or, perhaps, you could cover a Cult song. I really liked your version of "Learning to Fly" if you couldn't tell. Great work.

Posted by Ela (Member # 1365) on :

Hmmm, I never got the email - I check all my spam before I delete it, and I don't recall seeing it.

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Ela, I just tried again. Let me know whether or not you get this one.

I hadn't thought of doing other Floyd, but Wish You Were Here... I'd like to do Comfortably Numb, actually. But I'd need a band for that. [Razz]

Now The Cult is an interesting idea. The only one of their songs I know well is Painted On My Heart, though (from the Gone in 60 Seconds soundtrack). Perhaps I should try to get my hands on a greatest hits, if they have one.

I'd like a link

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

Attn. People with the link:

Now I'm mixing it. [Big Grin]

I don't have time to upload it now, though. As it is, recording the thing has already made me late for my afternoon of hanging out with fun people. [Razz]

I just downloaded Twinky's album. I'm listening to it right now.

Oh, and I would also like a link to the covers, please. [Smile]

Posted by twinky (Member # 693) on :

YGM, sir. [Smile]

(I'm going to start uploading the new song momentarily, it should be up in maybe half an hour.)

Edit: Okay, it's up, has been for a little while now.
